The jazz club 56 Lörrach e. V. was founded in 1956 as a jazz club in Lörrach by Werner Büche and a number of jazz-enthusiastic colleagues. By the end of 2018, 1,381 concerts, 913 recordings, as well as jazz film evenings and “Jazz for Children” workshops were held.

The club Jazztone has been used for concerts since 1983 . The club is located in the economic wing of Villa Feer in Lörrach-Haagen on the northern edge of the Grüttpark .

history

The association was founded on October 25, 1956. There was a first jazz concert in Lörrach on October 30th with the Kurt Edelhagen All Stars and the Modern Jazz Group Freiburg in the Lörracher Stadthalle.

In 1959 it was entered in the register of associations . 1960 saw the opening of the first Domicil jazz cellar for record evenings in the Lörracher Gasthaus Schützenhaus . In 1963, Jazztone No. 1 opened on April 5th. Among others, Klaus Doldinger , Albert Mangelsdorff , George Gruntz performed here . 1968 saw the opening of Jazztone No. 2 on September 21st. 1983 saw the opening of Jazztone No. 3 on March 18 in the Brombach district. In 1996, the state jazz festival was organized for the 40th anniversary. In 2000 the first open-air event "Jazz at the Castle" took place in cooperation with the Volksbank Dreiländereck, which has been repeated annually since then. Ever since the jazz club was founded, there has been a desire for a permanent location where jazz concerts can be held alongside other activities. In the early days, different locations were used for this; The first concert organized by the jazz club took place on October 30, 1956 in the Lörracher Stadthalle. In 1960 the Domicil was expanded as the first small jazz cellar in the Lörrach Gasthaus Schützenhaus and used for record evenings. In 1963, after about a year of construction, a former underground cellar behind the Löwen inn in downtown Lörrach was converted into a jazz cellar. The name chosen was Jazztone ; with reference to a New York record company ( Jazztone Society ), which soon no longer existed.

From 1963 a regular series of concerts began in Jazztone No. 1. Just five years later, the inn, including the cellar, fell victim to urban renovation and was demolished.

Back in the city center, a cellar room was found behind the Meyerhof inn in 1968 (Jazztone No. 2). Albert Mangelsdorff is said to have called it “Germany's most beautiful jazz cellar”. At that time it was advertised as the “Regio Jazz Center”. A witty reading about this time could be followed in 2018 in Jazztone by top chef Vincent Klink , who was a regular visitor to the jazz concerts at the time. Unfortunately, this jazz cellar also had to be given up in 1980 because demolition could not be avoided.

After a long dry spell with concerts in various locations and at times in the canteen of the Kaltenbach machine factory, the city of Lörrach then made the offer to expand a historic horse stable of Villa Feer in the Lörrach district of Brombach, on the edge of the state garden show grounds from 1983. Currently, around 20 to 30 concerts are held annually in the Jazztone . The concert on the performance days usually starts on Fridays from 8:30 p.m. The concert program is published in the local daily newspapers, can be found on the homepage and is also made available on Facebook .

Jazz festivals

The jazz club 56 Lörrach organized the Baden-Württemberg State Jazz Festival in 1996 and 2006. He also presents himself at Lörrach swingt with several concerts by regional bands during a Sunday shopping in downtown Lörrach and for 20 years at “Jazz auf der Burg”, an open-air event at Rötteln Castle above Lörrach .
