Jean-Philippe Côté (born April 22, 1982 in Charlesbourg , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Boxers de Bordeaux in the French Ligue Magnus since August 2016 . He is the son of former NHL player Alain Côté .

Career

Jean-Philippe Côté was drafted in 2000 by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League , for which he was never on the ice. In the years from 2003 to 2008 he had 335 appearances for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League, where he scored a total of 54 points (10 goals, 44 assists) as a defender. Here he came to 8 appearances in the NHL for the Montréal Canadiens during the 2005/06 season . In November 2009 he moved to Europe, where he received a contract with the Kassel Huskies from the German Ice Hockey League . After the bankruptcy of Northern Hesse, he went to league competitor Hamburg Freezers , for whom he played until the end of the 2010/11 season.

Then the defender moved back to the USA and played at the start of the season for the Ontario Reign in the ECHL , before he was first awarded to the AHL to the Norfolk Admirals and there a little later received a permanent contract until the end of the season. For the 2012/13 season , the Canadian moved to league rivals Syracuse Crunch and was appointed assistant captain. In December 2013 he was named to the squad of the NHL team Tampa Bay Lightning , whose farm team is Syracuse. After 19 games in the top North American league, the defender was sent back to Syracuse.

He spent the 2014/15 season entirely in Syracuse and made another attempt in Germany in 2015/16. He signed a contract with the DEL club Iserlohn Roosters and played 55 games for the team during the season. After a year in Iserlohn, Coté continued his career in the Ligue Magnus , the top French division; in August 2016 he was signed by the Boxers de Bordeaux .
