Jeff Hayes (born April 15, 1989 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who is currently active in the DEL2 at EV Landshut .

Career

OHL and Canadian University League

Hayes began playing ice hockey in his native Ottawa and at the Smiths Falls Bears, a club from the second-rate Canadian junior league in his home region of Ontario . In 2005 he was of the Guelph Storm , a team from the Ontario Hockey League , drafted . At the beginning of the 2006/07 season he was injured due to a broken jaw and moved to the Oshawa Generals for the following season within the OHL . In his first season he was able to reach the OHL playoff finals with his new club . For the Generals, Hayes was active for two more seasons, being both captain and behind Christian Thomas the best player of his club in terms of points in the 2009/10 season .

Already during his time at OHL it was noticed that in addition to ice hockey, he was not neglecting his school education. So after his junior days as a hockey player, Hayes began studying biology and psychology at Carleton University in his native Ottawa. With its sports teams Carleton Ravens , the university is organized in the University Sports Association of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and takes part with the ice hockey team in the Canadian University Championship (USports) . During his five-year studies, Hayes was active for the Ravens ice hockey team, especially in the 2012/13 season, alongside Mitchell Porowski, he was the best point player in his team and in the playoffs one of the best points players of this championship round. In Carleton University's 2015 Annual Review, Hayes was mentioned separately, specifically his performance in the all-important final game of the season against the Toronto Varsity Blues .

Europe and DEL2

For the 2015/16 season , Hayes moved to Europe and signed up for the newly formed MAC Budapest team from the Hungarian - Romanian MOL ice hockey league . In his first year abroad he was the top scorer in the entire league and reached the playoff final with his club. He was then signed by the Lausitzer Füchsen from the second-class German ice hockey league (DEL2) for the 2016/17 season . This season, Hayes was able to qualify for the playoffs with the ice hockey club from Weißwasser and was the best- scoring player of his team behind Dennis Swinnen . The Canadian started the 2017/18 season with the Swedish second division club BIK Karlskoga , but returned to the Füchsen in the DEL2 in November 2017. Although he did not play all games of the season, Hayes was the best point player on his team. He was also the most successful scorer of the Foxes in securing relegation in relegation , whereupon his contract was extended for one year. In the following season 2018/19 , the Lausitzer Füchse played one of the most successful main rounds in their second division history, were in the top tier of the league for many game days and ended up in 5th place, with Hayes again being the most successful scorer of the club from East Saxony with 59 points . With his performance, he recommended himself for other teams and is moving to league champions Ravensburg Towerstars for the 2019/20 season . After he had only a few opportunities to play as a foreign contingent player in the Oberschwaben team due to the re-engagement of Rob Flick , he dissolved his contract at the end of October 2019, after 9 games (2 goals) for Ravensburg, and joined league rivals EV Landshut .
