Robert "Rob" Flick (born March 28, 1991 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently active for the Czech club Orli Znojmo in the EBEL .

Career

OHL Junior

Rob Flick played for the London Junior Knights and the London Nationals before he was selected in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection in the fifth round in 83rd place by the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors . Then he was active from the 2008/09 season for three seasons for the OHL team from Mississauga , in which one always reached the play-offs . Especially in his last OHL season 2010/11 , the Majors were the most successful team in the preliminary round and won the Hamilton Spectator Trophy , the Bobby Orr Trophy and the Emms Trophy . The team reached both the OHL final and the final of the three Canadian junior leagues for the Memorial Cup . In the tournament for the Memorial Cup Flick scored twice game-winning goals. In total, Flick scored 37 goals, 38 assists and 213 penalty minutes in 93 games. In addition, he achieved a plus / minus balance of +28 in the main round . However, he was particularly noticeable for his physically strong game (2nd place in the league's penalty times ranking).

AHL and success in the ECHL

In the summer of 2011, Flick was signed by the Rockford IceHogs , the American Hockey League (AHL) playing farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL), and also played for the ECHL farm team of the Blackhawks, Toledo Walleye . For the following season 2012/13 he was then able to sign an entry level contract with the organization of the Chicago Blackhawks, from which he was selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft . In the season he was still used with the IceHogs and transferred to the organization of the Boston Bruins for Maxime Sauvé for the next 2013/14 season . The following two seasons he was active for their AHL farm team Providence Bruins , before he received an offer from the Florida Panthers for the 2015/16 season , for whose AHL representative Portland Pirates he played this season. Flick was found to have good physical abilities and a good understanding of the game.

For the 2016/17 season he was active with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL and their most successful scorer and goalscorer with 42 goals and 43 assists. The club from Charleston reached the season finale for the Kelly Cup and before that defeated the Manchester Monarchs in the final of the Eastern Conference for the EA "Bud" Gingher Memorial Trophy . In the seventh and decisive game of this series, Flick was the most successful play-off player of the Stingrays and also a goal scorer in this game. He was also loaned to Manitoba Moose (AHL) for five games .

Europe and DEL2

In July 2017, Rob Flick from Villacher SV was signed by the Austrian Ice Hockey League (EBEL) and played in Europe for the first time in the 2017/18 season . After an unsuccessful season for the club from Villach , they parted ways with the Canadian in January 2018 due to differing views on commitment, behavior and performance. Flick then ended the season in the Slovak ice hockey league at HKm Zvolen . For the 2018/19 season he was then signed by the ice pirates Crimmitschau from the second-highest German ice hockey league DEL2 . At the club from West Saxony , he established himself as the most successful scorer in his first DEL2 season and became one of the top three goalscorers in the entire league with 34 goals. In particular in the decisive game for reaching the pre-playoffs (and avoiding relegation ) on the penultimate match day of the main round against local rivals Lausitzer Füchse , he scored three goals in the important 4-3 victory. For the following season he received a try-out contract with the reigning DEL2 master EV Ravensburg at the end of September 2019 . In his first outing for his new club, he scored 4 goals in a 6: 5 win after penalty shoot-out against the Lausitzer Füchse. In the other eight games of his probationary period, two more goals followed, but this did not lead to an extension of the contract. Therefore, Flick decided to sign a contract in the Austrian Ice Hockey League (EBEL) with the Czech team Orli Znojmo .
