Matic Podlipnik (born August 9, 1992 in Jesenice ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EV Landshut in DEL2 since February 2020 . In addition to his ice hockey career, he also plays inline hockey .

Career

Matic Podlipnik began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of HD mladi Jesenice , for which he played in the Slovenian U20 league. In 2009 he moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg , with whom he won the Austrian U20 championship in 2010. He was then accepted into the second men's team of the Red Bulls, which played in the National League , Austria's second-highest division. After a total of three years in Austria, he moved to the Czech Republic, where he was under contract with HC Dukla Jihlava in the first division , the country's second-highest division, until November 2014 . In the meantime he was loaned to HC Pelhrimov from the 2nd division . After playing 18 games for HC Bozen in the Austrian ice hockey league in autumn 2015 , he played since January 2016 for SK Horácká Slavia Třebíč in the second-rate Czech 1st division , where he ended the season. After a year at the Lyon Hockey Club in Ligue Magnus , he has been back in the Czech 1st division since 2017 and this time with HC Karlovy Vary . In 2018 he made it back to the extra league with the club from Karlovy Vary , but was unable to show the previous year's performance again and left the club after the 2018/19 season. In August 2019 he received a contract with HC Slovan Bratislava from the Slovak Extraliga , for which he only played 26 games until February 2020 due to injury. Therefore he decided to change and was signed by EV Landshut from the DEL2 .

International

For Slovenia , Podlipnik took part in the junior division II of the U18 world championships, U18 world championships 2009 and 2010 and the U20 world championships of division I in 2011 and 2012 .

In the senior division, the defender was on the ice for the first time at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , when the Slovenes achieved a surprising seventh place. In the same year he was also used in Division I of the 2014 World Cup and rose with his team to the top division. There he played at the 2017 World Cup . He also took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and in the Division I World Cup in 2018 , when he achieved the best plus / minus balance of the tournament.

Inline hockey

In addition to his ice hockey career, Podlipnik also plays inline hockey . At the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship 2013 he was in the squad of the Slovenian national team , with which he had to relegate to Division I as the bottom of the table in the top division.
