João Pedro Silva (born May 15, 1989 in Benedita ) is a Portuguese triathlete . He is the U23 European Champion in 2008, 2010 and 2011. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he finished ninth.

Athletic career

At the age of 17, João Pedro won his first medals at the Junior World Championships. In the same year he also started in elite competitions for the first time and achieved top ten placements.

He is Portuguese junior triathlon champion in 2006 and 2007 and U23 champion in 2008. At the world championship series and world series triathlon in Yokohama, he won gold in 2011 and 2012.

2012 Summer Olympics

He finished ninth at the 2012 London Olympics.

In France, Silva competes for the Club Les Sables Vendee Tri in the club championship series Grand Prix de Triathlon . At the grand finale in Nice (September 16, 2012), for example, Silva finished fourth in the individual standings and won the stage and overall victory for his club.

In the 2013 ITU World Championship racing series, João Pedro finished sixth after seven races.

2016 Summer Olympics

In May 2016 he finished seventh at the European Championships on the Olympic short distance. In July 2016 he became national champion on the short distance triathlon. In 2016, João Silva qualified for a starting place at the Summer Olympics for the second time and he finished 35th for Portugal on August 18 in Rio de Janeiro.

In June 2017, the 28-year-old finished third at the European Triathlon Championships on the short distance and a week later on the sprint distance. In his first start in the middle distance, he finished second in the Ironman 70.3 Cascais in Portugal in September 2018 .

João Pedro studies medicine at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa .
