Joseph Michael Manganiello (born December 28, 1976 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American film actor .

Life

Early life

Joe Manganiello was born in Pittsburgh, the elder of two sons of Charles and Susan Manganiello, but grew up with his younger brother Nicholas in Mount Lebanon , a small town in Allegheny County southwest of Pittsburgh . Manganiello has both Italian and Armenian roots and announced in an interview that his grandfather was Austrian . His great-grandmother was a survivor of the Armenian genocide , in which her husband and seven of their children were murdered and their eighth child died while fleeing.

After attending St. Bernard School , a Catholic private school in Mount Lebanon, Manganiello graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School , where he graduated in 1995. In his youth he did a lot of sports and was captain of the school team in football , volleyball and basketball . A knee injury sustained by Manganiello during a football game in 10th grade thwarted his plans to gain a foothold in professional sports. He then enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University , where he studied acting . He then moved to Los Angeles , California .

Career

In 1999 Manganiello wrote the screenplay for Out of Courage 2: Out for Vengeance , a 28-minute short film that he not only produced, but also starred in a leading role.

In 2002 he was in the role of Flash Thompson in Spider-Man in front of the camera. Since then, Manganiello could mainly be seen as a guest actor in television series, including CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators , Close to Home or Scrubs . In 2007 he took on a leading role in the television series American Heiress , which was discontinued after 64 episodes. He also took on major supporting roles between 2008 and 2010 in One Tree Hill and from 2006 to 2009 and 2012 in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother . From 2010 Manganiello stood in front of the camera for the television series True Blood .

On September 8, 2016, Geoff John's media reports confirmed that Manganiello would star in the Ben Affleck- directed film The Batman in the role of Deathstroke . The film Justice League was finally released in 2017. In it he took over the announced role in the post-credits scene.

Private

After being ranked 7th in the Sexiest Man Alive ranking by People magazine in 2010 , it was ranked 1st in the 2011 Best Summer Body of 2011 in Men's Health magazine . Today he also supports the organization Until There's a Cure in the fight against HIV and AIDS . He is good friends with John Feldmann , the singer in the band Goldfinger . As a young man, Manganiello was a roadie on the band's tour.

From December 2014 he was engaged to actress and model Sofía Vergara . The two married on November 22, 2015 in Palm Beach , Florida .
