Joseph William "Joe" Mattock (born May 15, 1990 in Leicester ) is an English football player who has been under contract with Rotherham United since the summer of 2015 .

Career

Leicester City

In 2004 he played for Leicester City in the youth team for the first time . In the U-18 he was used regularly and played there with players such as Ashley Chambers , Max Gradel , Andy King and Eric Odhiambo . In the 2006/07 season he won the Premier Academy League with these , where they won 4-3 on penalties against Sunderland AFC . He was then named "Youth Player of the Season".

On April 14, 2007 he made his professional debut in the 2-1 home defeat by Norwich City when he came on in the 78th minute for Gareth McAuley . He was given the shirt with the number 30. A year earlier, this number was also worn by a young talent, namely James Wesolowski . After appearances against Birmingham City , Preston North End and Barnsley FC , the season was over and Mattock was able to book four league games for himself in his first year as a professional.

During the 2007-08 season, on November 9, 2007, he signed a new three-year contract with Leicester City . On January 14, 2008, his club rejected an offer from an initially unknown Premier League club for him. It turned out that the offer was from West Ham United . After Leicester's relegation at the end of the season, Aston Villa expressed an interest in him and his teammate Richard Stearman . While Stearman moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window , Mattock stayed with his club for another year. He actually wanted to move in the summer, but there were no interested clubs at the time.

On August 12, 2008, he injured his left ankle during the League Cup game against Stockport County . Fortunately it was not broken, so it was only missing for a few weeks. On August 28, three days before the end of the transfer window, Leicester turned down two seven-figure offers for Mattock. On November 28th he received the BBC East Midlands Football Achievement Award in Nottingham . On January 19, 2009, he scored his first and only league game goal for Leicester in a 2-0 win over Yeovil Town . Leicester City finished the 2008/09 season in first place in the table and thus won the Football League One and rose again.

West Bromwich Albion

On August 6th, while Mattock was on international tour, he was informed by his agent that West Bromwich had Albion on him. He then asked President Milan Mandarić for clearance, which coach Nigel Pearson did not like at all. Four days later, he moved for a million pound sterling fee and signed a four-year contract. Two days later he played his first game in the Baggies shirt in a 2-0 win in the League Cup against Bury . With many Leicesters upset about it, he was whistled loudly on his return to Walkers Stadium in November .

In January 2011 he was loaned to Sheffield United until the end of the season , where he played his first game against Coventry City a few days later .

National team

Mattock was a member of the U-19 squad that took part in the 2008 U-19 European Football Championship . In the English U-21 national team he played in qualifying for the European Championship 2009 , he made his debut in the 2-0 win over the Bulgarian U-21 national team . But he did not take part in the final tournament, as he decided to appear with the U-19 team, with which he became vice European champion. In the group stage of the tournament he scored his first goal on an international level.

Others

On September 2, 2009, four people were charged with assaulting four people.
