Johann Anton Graf von Goëss , Freiherr zu Karlsberg, Moosburg and Ebenthal (born August 6, 1816 in Stra near Venice ; † May 20, 1887 in Vienna ), was an Imperial and Royal Chamberlain , Real Privy Councilor , Austrian officer, large landowner and politician, long-time governor of Carinthia .

biography

The head of the Primogenitur and the entire Goëss house was the son of Peter Graf von Goëss (1774–1846) and his second wife Countess Isabella von Thürheim zu Bibrachzell (1784–1855). He passed the state exams over the first two years of his legal studies, was in active military service from 1835 to 1847, as a cavalry master in the 5th cuirassier regiment. On May 14, 1848 he married Countess Maria Theresa von Wilczek (born May 23, 1823 in Vienna; † June 23, 1898 ibid), star cross order and palace lady . In 1849 he took part in the campaign against rebellious Hungary as a major .

Until 1883 the hereditary table master sat as a representative of the large estates in the Carinthian state parliament and until 1861 in the Austrian Reichsrat . The count was then appointed governor of Carinthia from 1861 to 1876 . In 1861 he was appointed hereditary member in the manor house of the Austrian Imperial Council, and in 1872 he was elected President of the Kärntner Sparkasse .

The count was decorated with the Order of the Golden Fleece (1878) and the Order of the Iron Crown, 1st class .

Goëss advocated a unified, centralized but constitutionally governed Austria.
