Jon Awe (born April 30, 1980 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Valpellice from the Italian A1 series since July 2011 .

Career

Jon Awe played from 1999 in Texas Tornado in the North American Hockey League , for which he was on the ice in the following two years. The American then decided to study at Northeastern University in Boston , Massachusetts . During this time he also played ice hockey for their university team, the Northeastern Huskies , in Hockey East . Overall, he was four years for their team on the ice before the undrafted Awe for the 2005/06 season received a contract with the Gwinnett Gladiators in the ECHL . In his debut season, the defender was one of the regular members of the Gladiators and, compared to his university days, he showed a great improvement, especially in the offensive area, which was reflected in the statistics. In 49 regular season games, the physically strong Awe scored 35 points and was subsequently elected to the league's all- rookie team .

In the playoffs, the defender reached the finals of the Kelly Cup with the team , in which the team lost to the Alaska Aces in five games . In the same season he was also used for the Portland Pirates and Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League . In the 2006/07 season, Awe increased his offensive statistics again significantly and was elected to the ECHL's First All-Star Team at the end of the season and was named ECHL Defenseman of the Year . He also took part in the ECHL All-Star Game , where he managed to get the hardest slap shot of the event in the so-called Skill Competition . In the following season, the American continued to go on the ice for the Gwinnett Gladiators. In the course of the season, he succeeded for the first time in the regular squad of an AHL team when Awe became a regular player with the Houston Eros .

In July 2008, he decided to leave the United States and initially agreed on a one-year contract with Anyang Halla from the Asia League Ice Hockey . At the South Korean club he met the Canadian Brad Fast , with whom he often stood on the ice together in the following years. With Anyang Halla he won the championship of the Asia League Ice Hockey in 2010 and 2011. In summer 2011 he moved to HC Valpellice in the Italian A1 series .
