Pelenda Joshua "Josh" Tunga Dasilva (born October 23, 1998 in Ilford , London ) is an English football player of Angolan descent who has been under contract with second division club Brentford since August 2018 . The midfielder is a former England junior international.
Club career
Arsenal FC
Josh Dasilva joined the Hale End Academy, the youth division of Arsenal FC , at the age of eight . With the Gunners, he went through various junior selections, in which he ran up on the positions of winger and striker , before he took over the task of central midfielder . In August 2015 he signed his first professional contract with the North Londoners. In the 2015/16 season he received his first appearances for the reserve team (U23) in the Premier League 2. This continued in the next season and he was also listed twice in the first team's matchday squad.
He made his debut in the men's team on September 20 in the 1-0 home win against the Doncaster Rovers in the third round of the EFL Cup , in which he was substituted on at half-time for Calum Chambers . He came to two more games in this competition. In this 2017/18 season, Dasilva was otherwise only considered in the U23, where he became an essential factor and also wore the captain's armband in some games. Since he saw no future in the first team, he turned down a contract extension at the end of the season and left Arsenal on June 30, 2018 after 12 years.
Brentford FC
The search for a club took weeks and dragged on until shortly before the start of the season. On August 21, 2018, the second division FC Brentford presented the midfielder as a free transfer and equipped him with a four-year contract with an option for another. Dasilva remained in the English capital, but had a difficult time at his new club due to the missed preparation and had to struggle with fitness problems at the beginning. He made his debut on October 3 (matchday 16) when he came on for Josh McEachran in the 2-0 home win against Millwall FC in the closing stages . As a result, however, he did not get beyond the status as a substitute and sporadic missions. It was not until the end of the 2018/19 season that he made his breakthrough in the starting line-up of head coach Thomas Frank . On April 19, 2019 (43rd matchday), he scored the only goal of his team in a 1-1 draw against Millwall FC. The hit from a distance of around 30 meters should be the only Dasilvas in 17 league appearances and was nominated for the goal of the month award.
After he did not have a permanent place at the beginning of the next season 2019/20 , he established himself again in the starting lineup from October 2019. On November 30th (19th matchday) he scored a hat trick in the 7-0 home win against promoted Luton Town - one of the highest league victories in the club's history - and contributed a template.
National team
Dasilva, who comes from Angola , took part in the U19 European Championship 2017 in Georgia with the English U19 national team. There he was used in three games, including the 2-1 win in the final against Portugal .
From August 2017 to June 2019, he then played nine international matches for the U20s .
