Christian Thers Nørgaard (born March 10, 1994 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish football player . He is under contract with the English second division club Brentford and is used in the central and central offensive midfield.

Career

societies

Youth and professional debut in Denmark

As a child, Nørgaard played for Boldklubben Heimdal in the Copenhagen district of Nørrebro for a year before moving with his family to Espergærde and joining Espergærde IF . In the C-youth he moved to the Danish first division club Lyngby BK . On November 20, 2011 (16th matchday) he made his professional debut in the Superliga in a 2-2 draw against HB Køge when he came on for Christian Traoré in the 73rd minute .

One and a half years at HSV

During the winter break of 2011/12, Hamburger SV signed a youth development contract for the youth teams. On March 4, 2012 he completed his first game for HSV in the second team (U-23) trained by Rodolfo Cardoso in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . He was substituted on for Kevin Ingreso after the half-time break in the 2-2 game against VfB Germania Halberstadt . The preparation for the 2012/13 season completed Nørgaard completely with the first team. He later signed a professional contract. On the first day of the match he was in the squad for a Bundesliga game for the first time . In the 0-1 home defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg , however, he was not substituted on. He continued to get match practice in the U-23.

Back in Denmark at Brøndby IF

On August 21, 2013, Nørgaard returned to Denmark and joined Brøndby IF . He signed a contract that ran until 2017 and was extended six months before the end of the contract until 2020. Nørgaard made his debut for Brøndby IF on September 22, 2013 in a 3-1 away win on matchday nine against Aarhus GF . Because of a torn ligament in his knee, he came in the 2013/14 season, in which Brøndby IF took fourth place in the table, to only 13 appearances. A season later, he was eliminated with the team in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League against Club Brugge and took third place in the league. In the following season he reached the preliminary elimination for the Europa League with the team and was eliminated in the play-offs against PAOK Thessaloniki ; at the end of the season Brøndby IF finished fourth in the table. In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons he was runner-up with Brøndby IF and won the Danish Cup in 2018.

Another move abroad

In July 2018, Nørgaard moved to Italy for Fiorentina and signed a four-year contract. Even an injury he could fight for a regular place and came to just six appearances in Serie A . For the 2019/20 season, the native of Copenhagen moved to England to second division club Brentford and signed a contract for a term of four years.

National team

Nørgaard played over 40 youth internationals for Denmark between 2009 and 2013 in the age groups U-16, U-17 and U-19. In May 2011 he reached the semi-finals with the U-17 national team at the U-17 European Championship in Serbia, in which they lost 2-0 to the German offspring. Nørgaard was involved in all four Danish tournament games and scored the 1-0 winner in the last group game against France. By reaching the European Championship semi-finals, the Danish U-17 team was also qualified for the U-17 World Cup in Mexico a month later . There Nørgaard was also part of the squad of junior national coach Thomas Frank , but only made three appearances when they were eliminated after the preliminary round.

Nørgaard made his debut in the Danish U-21 team in 2013 and completed a total of 27 internationals over the next four years. He was part of Denmark's squad at the U-21 European Championship finals in 2015 and 2017 . While he only made two short appearances as a supplementary player in the 2015 semi-finals, he was in the starting line-up in all three tournament games until he was eliminated after the preliminary round in 2017.
