Mohamed Saïd Benrahma ( Arabic محمد سعيد بن رحمة, DMG Muḥammad Saʿīd b. Raḥma ; * August 10, 1995 in Aïn Témouchent ) is an Algerian - French football player who has been under contract with the English second division FC Brentford since July 2018 . The winger has been an Algerian international since October 2015 .

Club career

Beginning with Nice

Saïd Benrahma started playing football in his Algerian homeland at NRB Bethioua. After moving to France with his family at the age of eleven, he played for Balma SC and the US Colomiers before moving to the youth department of OGC Nice in July 2013 . In his first season in 2013-14 he played mainly in the reserve. The head coach Claude Puel nominated him for the first time for the first team matchday squad at the end of September. On October 5 (9th matchday) he made his debut in the 0-1 away defeat against FC Toulouse in Ligue 1 when he came on for Jérémy Pied in the 75th minute . In this 2013/14 season he came to four other short assignments.

In the following season 2014/15 he played his first league appearance on April 4 (matchday 31) and prepared a goal in the 2-2 draw against FC Évian Thonon Gaillard . In the next game he scored the 1-0 winner against Stade Reims . In the rest of the season, he completed another league game. In the 2015/16 season he established himself as a rotation player with the Aiglons .

Loan shops in France

In order to gain more match practice, he switched to SCO Angers on loan until the end of the season in January 2016 . There he did not make a breakthrough in the six months and he ended the season with 21 appearances in which he scored three goals.

After his return he was denied the step into the first team under the new trainer Lucien Favre and he did not play a single game of the season for Nice until January 2017. In January he moved on loan to second division club Gazélec FC Ajaccio , where he was reintegrated into the game. The winger quickly established himself in the starting line-up for the Corsican and ended the 2016/17 season with three goals and as many assists in 15 appearances.

However, he did not return to Nice, but was loaned to the second division club LB Châteauroux for the entire 2017/18 season. He made his debut in the champions of the previous third division season with a goal in the 3-2 away win against Stade Brest . He rose to an important player in the team and carried them with nine goals and five assists to a solid midfield position.

Breakthrough at Brentford

On July 6, 2018, he finally left OGC Nice and moved to English second division club Brentford for a transfer fee of 1.7 million euros . With the Bees , he signed a four-year contract, which can be extended by the club for another year. He made his debut with his new club on August 4 (1st matchday) in a 5-1 home win against Rotherham United , when he came on for Sergi Canós in the 68th minute . His first goal was in the 4-2 away cup game against Southend United . Under head coach Thomas Frank, he quickly acclimatized and after ten match days the regular player already stopped five assists. After he remained in the next ten league games without a goal participation, he broke the spell on December 8 (21st matchday) and scored his first championship goal for Brentford. After the turn of the year he made his breakthrough with the relegation-threatened Londoners. In January 2019 he scored twice in three league games, assisted two more goals and allowed Brentford seven points. In the following time his strong form continued. On February 23, he shot his team with a three-pack to a promising 5-1 home win over Hull City . After an excellent two and a half months, his goal and submission rate fell in mid-March. He ended the 2018/19 season four games before the end due to an ankle injury. At that time he held an excellent ten goals and 15 templates, which he was able to collect in 38 league games.

This injury cost him the entire preparation for the next season 2019/20 , because of which he did not start the first games of the season. He returned to the starting line-up at the end of August, but remained without influence in the first league games. On October 22nd (13th matchday) he scored his first goal of the season in a 3-0 away win against Swansea City .

National team

Benrahma has both Algerian and French citizenship, which means he could have played for both national teams. On September 30, 2015 he was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Algerian national team . On October 13, 2015, he played his first appearance in a 1-0 win in the friendly international match against Senegal , when he came on for Baghdad Bounedjah in the 70th minute of the game .
