Joshua R. Norman (born on 15. December 1987 in Greenwood , South Carolina is) a US American football poker players on the position of the cornerbacks . He played college football for Coastal Carolina University before being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 2012 NFL Draft , for which he played in the NFL until 2015. From 2016 to 2019 he was under contract with the Washington Redskins . He has been playing for the Buffalo Bills since 2020 .

Early years

Norman attended Greenwood High School , where he and his team won the South Carolina State Championship in 2006. He was the only player on his team who was used in both offense and defense . He was elected all-state player and was allowed to take part in the all-star game . In addition to football, he also practiced basketball , baseball and athletics . Despite performing well in high school, he did not receive offers of athletic scholarships from Division I universities.

college

Norman first attended Horry Georgetown Tech College before getting the chance to play for Coastal Carolina University the next year in 2008 . This year he was used as a freshman in all twelve games, whereupon he finally received a scholarship. In the 2009 season he was selected by the Associated Press in the third-team All-American after breaking the league record with eight interceptions . In 2011, he was named a Top Ten Defensive Backs by Sports Network , and as a graduate, ranked second on Coastal Carolina's leaderboards for career interceptions (11) and defending passes (23). He graduated with a degree in communication and acting.

NFL

Carolina Panthers

Although Norman received several awards in his college career, he was only considered a third-round pick before the 2012 NFL Draft , as he had played at a small university, where the performance density and thus the quality of the competition is lower. He was only drafted as the third player at Coastal Carolina University ever when the Carolina Panthers selected him as 143rd player in the fifth round. Norman signed a four-year contract worth $ 2.3 million and was a regular alongside Chris Gamble from the start . He was used in all 16 games of the season and posted his first interception against Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on the seventh game day. Although he repeatedly indicated his potential, he had to struggle with the leap in performance to the NFL and was a substitute from the 14th day of play. He finished his rookie season with 73 tackles , one interception and seven passes defended.

Although he had a promising preseason in 2013 , he only appeared in seven games and was not part of the squad in five games, as he fell behind the more experienced Captain Munnerlyn , Drayton Florence and rookie Melvin White in the depth chart. Without him, the Panthers' defense became the second best in the NFL.

Before the 2014 season, the Panthers lost cornerbacks Munnerlyn (to the Minnesota Vikings ) and Florence (was released). Still, Norman was not automatically considered a starting player alongside White. With another strong preseason, he was able to prevent a possible dismissal and went into the season as a substitute. On the eighth day of the match he was back on the grid for the first time and impressed with strong performances. At the end of the season, Pro Football Focus rated him in the ranking of the best cornerbacks of the NFL in 27th place. This season he only allowed 27 pass catches over 291 yards and 74 yards after the catch.

In 2015, Norman picked up where he left off in 2014, when the Panthers led the NFL with 15 wins in one loss. In the first four games he got four interceptions, which led to two touchdowns . After 14 game days he had only allowed nine pass catches for a total of 89 yards against the top wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins , Mike Evans , TY Hilton , Dez Bryant and Julio Jones . On the 15th day he delivered a hard-fought duel with New York Giants Odell Beckham Jr. , in which he allowed 30 yards and a touchdown. Norman was punished for two personal fouls, while Beckham committed three and was subsequently suspended for a game after a tackle in Norman's helmet. Throughout the season, opposing quarterbacks had a quarterback rating of 54 when they threw at the Norman-covered receiver, the lowest number of any NFL cornerback. That year he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time . After the season he was given the Franchise Tag by the Panthers due to his contract expiring . On April 20, 2016, this was surprisingly reversed, as they could not agree on a new long-term contract with Norman. So he was suddenly a free agent and he was able to negotiate with other clubs from now on.

Washington Redskins

On April 22, 2016 signed with the Washington Redskins Norman a five-year contract for 75 million dollars , making him the highest-paid cornerback in the league. After week 11 of the 2019 season , he was transferred to the bench and discharged at the end of the season.

Buffalo Bills

On March 9, 2020, Norman signed a one-year contract for $ 6 million, which can rise to $ 8 million through bonus payments, with the Buffalo Bills .
