Jurino ( Russian Ю́рино ; Bergmari Йӱрнӹ ; Wiesenmari Йӱрнӧ ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Mari El in Russia with 3465 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 100 km as the crow flies southwest of the republic capital Yoshkar-Ola . It is located on the left bank of the Volga , which is dammed up to the Cheboksarsk reservoir .
Jurino is the administrative center of the Rajons Jurinski and seat and only town of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Jurino.
history
A settlement in the place of today's place was first mentioned in 1227, the actual today's settlement as a village (selo) in 1721. From the 18th century Jurino belonged to the Ujesd Vasilsursk of the Nizhny Novgorod governorate , a little above the confluence of the Wetluga . The low-lying town center is protected against flooding by a dam.
On August 28, 1924 Jurino became the seat of a canton of the Mari Autonomous Oblast, which existed from 1920 to 1936 , from which the Mari ASSR emerged . On December 10, 1931, the canton became part of the Gornomarijski rajon with its seat in Kosmodemjansk , 15 km northeast on the other side of the Volga, but was re-established with the 1936 constitution, now as a Rajon.
Since 1927 the place has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

Via the reservoir there is a car ferry to Kosmodemjansk to the road network to the right of the Volga, there via a regional road connection to the federal trunk road M7 and to the capital of the neighboring Republic of Chuvashia, Cheboksary , where the nearest train station is a good 60 km east. On the left of the Volga, a regional road leads from Jurino up the Vetluga to the border of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast , from there on as 22K-0018 in the direction of the Voskressenskoye district center .
