The reorganized second cabinet Hashimoto ( Japanese 第 2 次 橋本 改造 内閣 , dainiji Hashimoto kaizō naikaku ) ruled Japan under the leadership of Prime Minister Ryūtarō Hashimoto from September 11, 1997 until his resignation on July 30, 1998. Hashimoto was unopposed on September 11th was re-elected as LDP chairman and thereupon formed the previously ruling second Hashimoto cabinet . In the Sangiin election in July 1998 , the LDP lost 15 seats and failed to achieve its goal of regaining an absolute majority in the Sangiin. Hashimoto announced his resignation on July 13, the cabinet was replaced on July 30 by the successor government under Keizo Obuchi .

- Finance Minister Mitsuzaka resigned on January 28, 1998 following a corruption scandal.
- Agriculture Minister Ihei resigned on September 26, 1997 after suffering an ischemic stroke .
- The head of the Department of Management and Coordination Satō resigned on September 22, 1997 after his involvement in the Lockheed scandal had been proven.
