Karin Schubert (politician)

Karin Schubert (born August 16, 1944 in Erfurt ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1994 to 2001 she was Minister of Justice in Saxony-Anhalt and then until 2006 Senator of Justice in the State of Berlin .

Life and work

Karin Schubert was born in Erfurt. She spent her school days in Thuringia , North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria . After studying sociology , psychology and law , she passed the second state examination in law in 1978. She then worked as a judge at local and regional courts in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf until 1988 . This was followed by the management of the Law and Constitution department at the State Representation of North Rhine-Westphalia in Bonn. From 1991 to 1992 she was head of the Neubrandenburg District Court , and from 1992 to 1994 President of the Neubrandenburg District Court.

Karin Schubert has been working as a lawyer in Berlin since 2007.

Karin Schubert has been a member of the SPD since 1971. In 1994, Prime Minister Reinhard Höppner brought her to his first cabinet as Minister of Justice of the State of Saxony-Anhalt . When the government was formed after the state elections in 1998, Schubert was confirmed in office and remained a member of the state government ( Höppner II cabinet ).

After the election victory of the Berlin SPD on October 21, 2001, she was appointed by the governing mayor Klaus Wowereit as mayor and senator for justice in the Senate of Berlin ( Senate Wowereit II ). As such, she took up her post on January 17, 2002 and thus resigned as Minister in Saxony-Anhalt. After the elections to the House of Representatives in September 2006, she was no longer available for a second term in the Wowereit Senate. Her term of office therefore ended in November 2006.
