Karl Ludwig Theodor von Aweyden (born January 2, 1829 in Juckeln , † March 30, 1891 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of Posen .

Karl was a son of the Prussian Prime Lieutenant of the same name in the 2nd West Prussian Dragoon Regiment Karl von Aweyden (1787-1848) and his second wife Louise, born von Clair († March 10, 1830).

Military career

Aweyden graduated from secondary school in Insterburg and joined the Emperor Franz Guard Grenadier Regiment of the Prussian Army in Berlin on November 6, 1850 as a flag junior . There he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on November 14, 1851 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on December 14, 1852 . From September 1, 1855, Aweyden served for three years as adjutant to III. Battalion of the 4th Guards Landwehr Regiment in Düsseldorf . After his return to his main regiment, he was adjutant of the 1st battalion and rose to regimental adjutant in April 1860. Shortly thereafter, Aweyden was transferred to the 3rd Guard Infantry Brigade as an adjutant and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 17, 1860. When he was promoted to captain on April 3, 1866, he was transferred to the Guard Fusilier Regiment and appointed company commander . As such, Aweyden took part in the battles at Thrush , Queen's Court and Königgrätz during the war against Austria in 1866 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords.

On March 22, 1868, Aweyden was transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 81 and appointed adjutant of the General Command of the VIII Army Corps . During the war against France in 1870/71 , he was a major in the staff of General August Karl von Goeben 's infantry . Aweyden took part in the Battle of Spichern and was badly wounded near Gravelotte . After his recovery he was employed at Amiens , the Hallue , Bapaume and Saint-Quentin . Aweyden was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements .

After the Treaty of Frankfurt , he was appointed on 15 July 1871 as commander of the Fusilier - battalion in 109 1. Baden Body Guard Grenadiers Regiment. In Karlsruhe . On September 19, 1874 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on February 10, 1877, he was commander of the 1st Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 46 . There he became a colonel on August 22, 1877 and on May 15, 1883 Aweyden was appointed major general and commander of the 35th Infantry Brigade . He gave up this command after almost three months and took over the 36th Infantry Brigade in Rendsburg . For his achievements, Aweyden was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with oak leaves and swords on the ring on January 17, 1886 . Released from his brigade command on April 13, 1887, he was then commandant of Posen and on November 15, 1887 received the character of lieutenant general. With the award of the star to the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, Aweyden was put up for disposal on July 3, 1888 with a pension .
