Katō began his international career in January 2003 in the B-World Cup Nordic Combined. At the Junior World Championships in Sollefteå in 2003 and in Stryn in 2004 , he could not achieve any front placement in the individual competitions. Between 2004 and 2007 he was able to steadily improve his results in the B World Cup and thus made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on March 9, 2007 . After he landed in the points in the first two competitions, he finished the season in 49th place in the Sprint World Cup overall standings. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he won the gold medal in the team competition together with Yūsuke Minato , Akito Watabe and Norihito Kobayashi . Also in the World Cup he was able to regularly achieve placements in the top thirty and then ended the 2008/09 season in 29th place in the overall World Cup ranking. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , he finished 24th in the individual on the normal hill and 30th in the individual on the large hill. In the team competition he came in 6th place with the team.
