German: Kempen, older alsoLangenfurt) is a city inPolandin theGreater Poland Voivodeshipon the Niesob River. It is located about 80 km northeast ofWroclawand 60 km southeast ofOstrów Wielkopolskiand has around 15,000 inhabitants.
(history
During the 10th to 12th centuries there was a defense system in the city area. Around the 13th century, a settlement formed around the complex. On February 15, 1282, a secret meeting between Duke Mściwój of Pomerania and Przemysław of Greater Poland took place here. The town received the town charter in 1283 from Przemyslaw under the name Langenvort . In 1660 the town received the town charter from King John II Casimir, which had been lost in the meantime . The first primary school opened in 1664. In 1668 the first craft guild was founded by the shoemakers . In 1691 a great fire raged, in 1708 and 1709 epidemics in the city. After the second partition of Poland , the city became part of Prussia from 1793 to 1807 , and from 1807 to 1815 again as part of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw . In 1815 Prussia again became the seat of a district ( Kempen district in Posen ). After the end of the First World War , the city was officially ceded to Poland on January 17, 1920. The occupation by the Third Reich in September 1939 ended on January 21, 1945 with the invasion of the Red Army . Today Kępno is a center of the Polish furniture industry.

- In the district of Mikorzyn, about ten kilometers north of the city: The Sanctuary of St. Egidius ( Sanktuarium św. Idziego ), a neo-baroque church with double towers and a late Gothic figure of St. Egidius from the 15th century.

traffic
The city has a tower station on the Kluczbork – Poznań railway (further stop in Domanin) and on the Herby – Oleśnica railway, which is only operated in an easterly direction (further stop in Świba). In the past there was also the Namysłów – Kępno railway (further stop: Kępno Zachodnie ( West )).
