history

The early Gothic church (patron: St. Martin ) was built around the middle of the 14th century. The nave was changed in 1660, the church tower was expanded in 1731 and enlarged in 1883. In 1833 the old 1 m thick walls were also weakened. The sacristy is north of the choir . The sanctuary (choir) has a cross vault with roughly framed ribs. Heraldic shields serve as vault catchers, which according to their shape probably date from the 14th century. On the nave, the original rows of blocks can still be seen under the plaster. The year 1731 is immortalized on the octagonal tower. In 1883 the nave was extended to the west. The high altar has four columns and four figures. It dates from around 1730. The tabernacle was painted in 1781 by the painter Josef Forster from Sulzbürg . The side altars (around 1700) each have two winding columns, around which rose tendrils are wrapped and acanthus tendrils to the side. The baptismal font made around 1450 is still well preserved today.

The Bavarian original cadastre shows Klapfenberg in the 1810s as a church village with 16 hearths, the church and its walled churchyard .
