Klemen Prepelič (born October 20, 1992 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian basketball player . The Slovenian international played professionally alongside clubs in his home country in Turkey and in the 2015/16 basketball Bundesliga for the German first division club EWE Baskets Oldenburg.

Career

Prepelič played his first senior games at Branik in his hometown of Maribor before moving to KK Helios in Domžale after the U18 European Championship finals in summer 2010, in which he participated with the Slovenian national youth team and achieved tenth place . In the 2010/11 season, the former champions of 2007 lost the cup final significantly against record champions and defending champions Union Olimpija and then only narrowly failed in a direct comparison against these opponents to move into the final series for the championship. After champions KK Krka and Union Olimpija had reached the Final Four of the Adriatic Basketball League (ABA) 2010/11 , KK Helios was one of two other Slovenian teams in the ABA League 2011/12 after a year of abstinence for the seventh time to participate in this regional competition . However, they only reached the penultimate place in front of the national competitor KK Zlatorog Laško . In the national championship, Union Olimpija again blocked entry into the final series with the later Bundesliga player Deon Thompson Helios in the play-off semi- final series. At the U20 European Championship finals in front of their home crowd, the Slovenian junior selection, with Prepelič as the internal top scorer , reached the quarter-finals undefeated, which was then clearly lost to later runner-up France. Prepelič missed the following two placement games due to an injury, in which Slovenia finally finished seventh after a loss to Germany and a win against Greece; but he was nominated as the only non-medalist for the "All-Tournament Team".

For the 2012/13 season Prepelič moved like Alen Omić , his team-mate from the junior selection, to the record and then runner-up KK Union Olimpija in the capital Ljubljana . In the highest-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 they were eliminated after only three wins in ten games after the preliminary round. In the ABA League 2012/13 they reached eighth place at least before champions KK Krka, while they could defend the title win in the national cup competition 2013. But in the play-off final series of the championship, as in the following season, they were again defeated by KK Krka for the fourth time in a row. For the 2013/14 season Prepelič moved to Türkiye Basketbol Ligi for Banvit BK to Bandırma . In the Eurocup 2013/14 you left in the intermediate round in a group with KK Olimpija Prepelič 'previous club, but failed for the third time in a row to make it into the knockout rounds in this competition. In the national championship, the team around the former Bundesliga professional EJ Rowland played strong and after only two defeats this season reached first place after the main round, but in the play-off semi-final series they failed at defending champion Galatasaray Istanbul . Prepelič's shares in the Turkish team had not developed as hoped and had been very limited in the play-offs, which is why the three-year contract was dissolved again during the summer break. National coach Jurij Zdovc , who also worked as the club coach of a competitor in the Turkish league, took Prepelič with him to a final round for the first time in the men's squad.

At the 2014 World Cup finals , the Slovenian selection only lost the final game against Lithuania in the group stage . However, this meant that you met the defending champions United States in the quarter-finals , to whom you clearly lost with 76: 119. This was also the game in which Prepelič received most of the game shares and with nine points thrown in 13 minutes of use at least remained without a failed attempt. After the World Cup, Prepelič finally returned to KK Union Olimpija in November 2014, which at least improved to fifth place in the 2014/15 ABA League and was in sight of the Final Four places. Like a year before, they were eliminated in the second round of the Eurocup 2014/15 , when they lost all games against the German teams Bayern Munich and Brose Baskets and could only win the game at JDA Dijon . After the club had remained without a national title in the previous season, they were eliminated at the end of the season in the first play-off round in the quarter-finals against Prepelič 'former team KK Helios. The 2015 European Championship finals were only slightly more successful when they lost to Latvia in the round of 16 without NBA star Goran Dragić and were eliminated from the tournament. Prepelić had been without a club during the World Cup and signed just before the season starts a first fixed-term contract with the German first division club EWE Baskets from Oldenburg as a replacement for the injured starting - PG Scott Machado , who was eventually extended by one month to the end of season.
