The node with a summit location near Arborn in the Hessian Lahn-Dill district and mountain parts near Oberrod in the Rhineland-Palatinate Westerwaldkreis is 605.4 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Westerwald and one of the highest Hessian mountains of this low mountain range.
As a climatic divide, the mountain separates the Hohen Westerwald from the Lahnwesterwald.

The node is on the southeastern edge of the High Westerwald . Its peak rises in Hesse 3.2 km south of Mademühlen , 3.2 km southwest of Münchhausen (both to Driedorf ), 3 km west of Odersberg , 3 km northwest of Nenderoth , 1.5 km north-northwest of Arborn (all to Greifenstein ), 3.5 km north of the core town of Mengerskirchen and 2.8 km (as the crow flies ) northeast of the Rhineland-Palatinate community of Oberrod .
The Lahn tributaries, Kallenbach in the southeast and Ulmbach in the northwest, arise at the junction . The Kallenbach tributary Faulbach rises a little south-southeast of the mountain . The Elbbach tributary Lasterbach flows past to the west .
Natural allocation
The node belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Westerwald (No. 32) and in the main unit High Westerwald (322) to the subunit Westerwald basalt plateau (322.0), in which its summit and also its foothills Grauberg lie, with its landscape facing south and southwest in the Main unit Oberwesterwald (323 ) extends into the subunit Oberwesterwälder Kuppenland (323.1).
Hilltops
The northwestern extension of the 605.4 m high node is the Oberroder node ( 586.2 m ) on the state border . Its south-west summit with a peak in Rhineland-Palatinate is nameless and 595.4 m high. Its south-southwest branch is the 492.4 m high Grauberg .
Protected areas
Areas of the Krombachtalsperre landscape protection area are located on the western parts of the junction ( CDDA no. 322334; 1980; 18.35 km² ). There are, for example, those of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat -region wetlands and heaths of the High Westerwald (FFH No. 5314-304;. 47.8 km²), in the north parts of the FFH area Umbachtal and meadows in the grove alder (FFH No. 5414-302; 1.18 km²) and in the south those of the FFH area Heidenkopf and knots north of Mengerskirchen (FFH no. 5414-302; 1.18 km²). In the east lie areas of the bird sanctuary Hoher Westerwald (VSG no. 5314-450; 76.1 km²) and in the west those of the VSG Westerwald (VSG no. 5312-401; 289.48 km²).
History and tourism
In earlier times the knot was primarily used as pasture for livestock from local farmers and shepherds. Today there is a ski area on the mountain with two groomed trails and a descent of 280 m in length as well as a ski lift . The Wetzlarer Hütte , located about 150 m below the Weilburger Loipenhaus near the summit, serves hikers as a place to stay. There is also a 32 km long cycle path around the node . There is a summit cross on the mountain.
Wind turbines
In 2013, four E 101 wind turbines with a hub height of 135 m were erected on the node in the Arborn district . In order to prevent the construction of these systems, the citizens' initiative Rettet den Node was founded in 2010 , but its efforts were unsuccessful. Due to a pair of black storks breeding nearby, the plant construction was initially stopped in summer 2012.
Three more wind turbines (turbine type N117; hub height 141 m) went into operation at the beginning of 2015. You are on the western part of the ridge in the municipality of Mengerskirchen.
Traffic and walking
State road 3046 runs through Arborn, which is close to the junction. For example, starting on this road or on the state and district roads leading through the villages around the mountain, the junction can be hiked on dirt roads as well as forest trails and paths.
