The Kreuzbach is a 6 km long, approximately westward running brook predominantly in the urban area of Crailsheim in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which after its lower course in the municipality of Satteldorf last on the border of the two communities in the devil's blade from the right to the middle one Jagst flows. Its upper course up to the Crailsheim hamlet Beuerlbach is called Kühnbach .

geography

course

The Kühnbach arises in the Kappelwald in a forest path loop at about 517  m above sea level. NHN about a quarter kilometers southeast of the junction of the access road to Kreßberger height Weiler Rudolf mountain from the main road 1066 . The creek soon flows in a number of loops to the west and leaves the forest for the first time after about half a kilometer. It takes up some source drains and about 1.1 km below its origin in a forest section in the floodplain from the left the approximately 0.6 km long outflow of the Feuersee on the forest slope.

After it has passed under the L 1066 , which descends to the right in its valley , it flows again in a tree gallery in a meadow floodplain, as in the meadow section before, accompanied on the left by the district road K 2655 to Beuerlbach , which branches off the state road at a bizarre pair of linden trees . After a last forest bar over the floodplain, he passes three 0.7 hectare fish ponds on the left in front of the road, which are already in the fairly flat and widening exit bay from the forest mountainous region between its spurs Hermannsberg left and Kuhberg right (both approx. 490  m above sea level ). 3.2 km after its source it occurs below 435  m above sea level. NHN in the settlement area of the hamlet Beuerlbach and is now called Kreuzbach .

The Kreuzbach quickly runs north through the hamlet and then turns west again in front of the Kuhberg. Shortly after one another, it crosses under the lines of the Crailsheim – Nuremberg and Crailsheim – Königshofen lines coming from Crailsheim, which were only recently separated , and shortly thereafter the K 2659, the old line of the federal highway 290 , and then this itself. A little downhill from its bridge the valley, which is now digging deeper again, the stream usually seeps completely underground; the creek bed with rock and gravel banks made of shell limestone in the so-called devil's blade is therefore usually bare except for occasional small pools. The blade is on the eastern flank of a Dolinenreihe accompanied and largely consisted of a deciduous forest, on the black soil in spring the wild garlic flowers, and deepened last 50 meters over the edge heights.

The Kreuzbach finally flows from the right and east to 392.1  m above sea level. NHN about a quarter of a kilometer above the Weidenhäuser Mühle on the other side of the river in the Jagst , about 125 meters in altitude below the Kühnbach origin and after a 6.4 km long run with this, which means a mean bottom slope of about 2.6 ‰ Has.

Catchment area

The Kreuzbach has a catchment area of 4.8 km², a narrow tube around the creek running westwards, which naturally begins its course in the Crailsheimer Hardt sub- area of the Frankenhöhe and on the lower reaches the Crailsheimer Bucht sub-areas in the south and Gronachbucht in the north of the neighboring natural area Hohenloher and Haller levels separate. The highest point on the northeast corner on a flat, radio mast-bearing crest of the surrounding Kappelwald reaches 535.2  m above sea level. NHN .

The northern watershed rises steeply after a flat course in the foreland of the Hardt and then on its upper western spur around Rudolfberg again flat to this highest point, it separates the catchment area of the Jagst tributary Entenbach further downwards. Beyond the only short eastern one is the headwaters of the (Kreßberg-Wüstenauer) Trutenbach , which feeds the Wörnitz via the Mühlbach and the Zwergwörnitz . As part of the European main watershed between the Rhine on this side and the Danube on the other, this divide, which is not very prominent in the high forest, is hydrologically the most important. On the south side of the other Hardt-Westsporn over Schönebürg and Eichwald to the left of the Kreuzbach-Oberlauf Kühnbach along its upper reaches Mühlbach and another Trutenbach now flow again to Jagst in Crailsheim. In the flatter foreland near the estuary, the catchment area of the smaller Aarbach slides in between, which reaches the Jagst at the Satteldorfer Heldenmühle between this other Trutenbach and the Kreuzbach itself.

Less than half the area of the catchment area is forested, mostly around the upper reaches in the eastern part. An approximately half a square kilometer, waterless corner of the Mariäkappel suburb of Kreßberg protrudes from the east in its upper part, in which lies the hill clearing island with the hamlet of Rudolfsberg that drains with one half of the settlement from the right to the Kühnbach . The Kühnbach and the upper section of the actual Kreuzbach on the Mittellauf are located in the around two thirds of the catchment area of Crailsheim with its hamlet Beuerlbach as the only direct settlement on the Mittellauf, at the exit from the Hardt into the lower foreland. The rest of the lower catchment area lies almost entirely in the area of the municipality of Satteldorf , whose eponymous main town begins a little behind the northern watershed, while the associated single farm Auhof is just this side of the southern one. Only in the final meters in the vicious blade borders the right to run a tiny gusset Tiefenbacher part of local district now turn of Crailsheim.

hamlet of Beuerlbach flows through the water from the outskirts of Kreuzbach northwards and then turns back to the west.
  • Usual sinking point of the Kreuzbach, at approx. 422  m above sea level. NHN a few steps below the bridge over which the new route of the B 290 crosses its valley basin. Water rarely flows in the stream bed below.

Mouth of the Kreuzbach from the right and east to 392.1  m above sea level. NHN about a quarter of a kilometer above the opposite Weidenhäuser Mühle in the Jagst after its lower course through the Devil's Blade . The stream is 6.4 km long with its upper course called Kühnbach and has a catchment area of 4.8 km².

geology

In the catchment area there are tertiary layers from the upper Middle Keuper down to the Upper Muschelkalk . The plateau of the Kappelwald in the east probably reaches the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ), the Kühnbach, on the other hand, only arises in the Upper Bunter Mergeln ( Mainhardt Formation ) or even in the silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ). The young brook soon sinks into the lower colored marl ( Steigerwald formation ) and quickly crosses a reed sandstone band ( Stuttgart formation ) south of Rudolfsberg . Then he stays in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ) until shortly after the end of Beuerlbach . Still a little deepened, it then flows in the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt Formation ) until it cuts in like a gorge from the beginning of the Devil's Blade and the mostly waterless bed shows benches and rocks of the Upper Muschelkalk. On the watershed to the left and right of the lower reaches (near Auhof and on the southern edge of Satteldorf) there are islands of loess sediment from Quaternary deposits.

At the geotope "Hohlweg am Aufstieg zum Kuhberg" a little east of Beuerlbach, Gipskeuper is exposed, with the Corbula layer in it. On the spur of the Kuhberg lies at an altitude of 490  m above sea level. NHN an abandoned quarry in the reed sand. Another abandoned quarry at the beginning of the Devil's Blade is also geotope. The wall of this mining in the Upper Muschelkalk shows numerous karst cavities and cart formation .

Color tests have shown that at least part of the seeping Kreuzbach water comes to light again in the reservoir near Neunbronn in the Bühlertal , around 16 km west-southwest of the seepage point and far beyond the Kreuzbach receiving waterway in Jagst. It is believed that the water uses the channels of the earlier Jagst infiltration at the Heldenmühle about 2 km up the Kreuzbach estuary, which has now been removed by concreting the Jagst bed.

Nature and landscape

To the Kühnbach which is protected landscape Kühnbachtal above Beuerlbach with Hermannsberg . The forest-framed meadow valley is protected with deciduous forest edges, bodies of water and wet meadows, which is divided into small areas and is used differently close together. This section of the valley is on both sides even up to the ridges and a little further into the hamlet of Beuerlbach, part of two water protection areas that comprise almost three quarters of the catchment area. At the lower end of the stream, the Teufelsklinge is part of the nature reserve , and around it is part of the Jagsttal nature reserve with side valleys between Crailsheim and Kirchberg .

In addition to some trees, two areas are protected as a natural monument, the prehistoric section wall Schönebürg on the left watershed and the forest edge at the foot of the Huhberg a little east of Beuerlbach with the old quarry there, which was already mentioned in the section on geology.

tourism

The European long-distance hiking trail E8 , coming from the Satteldorfer hamlet Neidenfels in the north, leads across from the Weidenhäuser Mühle into the Jagsttal, then from the mouth of the Kreuzbach up the Teufelsklinge and then continues south over the Auhof and the Heldenmühle to northern Crailsheim. There it bends to the east and then later, mostly a little outside, follows the left watershed of the Kühnbach valley.

The forest tour cycle path (abbreviation ) follows the southwestern section of the foot of the Crailsheimer Hardt from the Satteldorfer hamlet Ellrichshausen to Crailsheim and crosses the stream in Beuerlbach, while the Hohenlohe tour cycle route (abbreviation Ho ) past Rudolfsberg and the origin of the Kühnbach runs over the plateau of the Kappelwald.
