Krietes Wald (Im Holze) is a nature reserve in the Osterholz district of the city of Bremen .
The nature reserve is approximately 8.3 hectares . Around 6 hectares are designated as the FFH area of the same name . The area has been under protection since May 30, 2015 (date of regulation: May 26, 2015).
The nature reserve is located in the east of Bremen between Hans-Bredow-Strasse and the embankment of the Bremen freight bypass line on the Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg line . It places a small forest area, the eponymous "Krietes Forest", as well as the area adjoining it to the east and a tree-lined ditch coming out of the forest to Julius-Faucher-Strasse under protection. The forest is characterized by a deciduous forest of beech and oak-hornbeam forests with a high proportion of old and dead wood . In the herbaceous layer settle Hairy Wood-rush , Maianthemum bifolium , wood sorrel and various fungi and ferns .
The forest is the habitat of the hermit , which has its largest known occurrence in northwest Germany, as well as numerous other beetles that rely on old and dead wood. The old trees provide a habitat for jackdaws , stock doves , green and great spotted woodpeckers and various other songbirds . Seven bat species are also native here, including the great noctule bat , pipistrelle and rough-skin bat .
The grassland between Krietes Wald and the railway embankment was reforested as part of a compensation measure to compensate for the loss of a wood in the course of the construction of the Mahndorf mobility hub at Bremen-Mahndorf train station, which was completed in 2013 . A path with a nature trail with native trees was laid out along the embankment . To the north and south of the nature reserve there are commercial areas of the Bremer Kreuz commercial area.
