The Authority for Culture and Media ( BKM ) is one of eleven specialist authorities of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and is responsible for cultural and media policy . The authority is based in the so-called Brandenburgerhaus (or Brandenburger Haus), an old office building at Hohen Bleichen 22 in Hamburg's Neustadt district .

Carsten Brosda has been President of the authority since February 1, 2017 , and the former Justice Senator Jana Schiedek (both SPD ) is State Councilor . In addition, on April 1, 2017, the Media Office moved from the Senate Chancellery back to the Cultural Authority.

Authority history

An independent cultural authority has existed in Hamburg since the end of the Second World War. In the 1970s, the culture and science department formed a joint authority for science and art , later the culture authority also temporarily included the area of ​​sport (today part of the interior authority ). The media area was most recently located in the Senate Chancellery.
