The Kulturfabrik (officially Center culturel Kulturfabrik ) is a cultural center in Esch an der Alzette in the south of Luxembourg , in the buildings of a former municipal slaughterhouse from the 19th century.

From 1885/86 to 1979 the building was used as a slaughterhouse for the city of Esch-Alzette. From 1982 onwards, a group of young actors, «Theater GmbH», began converting the existing premises into rehearsal and performance halls. In 1983 the Association Kulturfabrik was established. From 1984 to 1995 artistic and socio-cultural activities of all kinds were developed there. At the end of 1996 a convention is signed between the state, the municipality and the Kulturfabrik. On October 2nd, 1998, the Kulturfabrik cultural center is officially opened.

Today the Kulturfabrik is a place of exchange and creation as well as a motor for sustainable development and offers artist residences.

The Kulturfabrik has over 4500 m² of usable space, which consists of a large event room with 950 standing places and 270 seats, a small event room with 250 standing places, the "Ratelach" for literary evenings and cabaret with 35 places, an art gallery ("Galerie Terres Rouges"), There are six rehearsal rooms for music groups and three rooms for studios, workshops, formations and theater rehearsals as well as the ceramic factory and two other important rooms, the cinema ("Kinosch") and the restaurant "K116".

Missions

The cultural center supports local and regional artists, promotes talent, artistic activities and educational projects. It is also involved in cross-border projects (Festival du film italien de Villerupt, Autour de Taslima Nasreen, Regards sur le cinéma, Textes sans frontières ...) and is an engine for sustainable development.

250 events per year are organized inside and outside the Kulturfabrik.

The offer includes current music, world music, theater & staged readings, new clowns, film (Festival du film italien de Villerupt), literature / poetry (publisher of the bilingual magazine "Transkrit"), conferences, congresses and dance and percussion workshops.

Festivals like Out of The Crowd Festival, FlamencoFestival Esch, AfrikaFestival Esch, Clowns In Progress and Bang Your Head take place all year round: The groups that rehearse in the studios are Chief Mart's, Mutiny on the Bounty, Artaban, Mount Stealth, Scarred and Abstract Rapture.
