from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kumar ( Hindi : कुमार Kumār [ kʊˈmɑːr ]) is an Indian name used as a first , intermediate and family name. It is derived from the Sanskrit word kumāra , which can mean “boy, son” or “prince”. Unlike many other Indian surnames, "Kumar" is not associated with any particular caste . In parts of India such as Bihar state , many people have therefore adopted the name “Kumar” to hide their caste affiliation.
