Lars Ytting Bak (born January 16, 1980 in Silkeborg ) is a sporting director of a cycling team and a former Danish cyclist .

Cycling career

Bak started his international career with the Danish cycling team EDS-Fakta . He celebrated his first international elite success in 2004 as a member of the Dutch team Bankgiroloterij with a stage win in the Tour of Luxembourg .

In 2005 he switched to Team CSC and had his most successful year to date, in which he won the one-day race Paris-Bourges in addition to a stage in the Tour of the Mediterranean Sea and a stage and the overall ranking of the Tour de l'Avenir .

Bak achieved his most important victories in 2012 when he won a stage at the Giro d'Italia as a soloist in Sestri Levante and won the semi-classic Grand Prix de Fourmies .

At the end of the 2019 season, Bak ended his active career. In his last race, the classic Paris-Tours , he finished seventh.

Bak was considered one of the best domestics in road cycling. Bak started on a total of 20 Grand Tours . His best placement was 21st place at the 2006 Vuelta a España . Bak was Danish champion four times, three times in the individual time trial and once in the road race .

After his active career, Bak became the sporting director of his last team, NTT Pro Cycling , formerly Dimension Data .

Honors

In December 2011, Lars Bak was voted Danish “Cyclist of the Year”.
