history

Half-timbered houses in Lauenhain

Lauenhain was mentioned in 1278 as "Lawenhain". The place name is probably synonymous with “arbor grove”, which means “place that was surrounded by hardwood”. Lauenhain belonged as the neighboring Gersdorf until the time of the Reformation to the possessions of the monastery Grünhain in the beautiful burg care Crimmitschau, the 1413 wettinisch was in the 16th century in the Saxon Office Zwickau opened. Lauenhain was given to the monastery around 1280 by the owners Berthold von Ende and Konrad von Auerbach with the approval of their liege lords, the bailiffs of Weida and Gera . The first Protestant service was held in 1529 in the local church, which was built in 1316. After the dissolution of the Grünhain monastery in 1533, part of the village belonged to the Ruppertsgrün manor around 1551 and from 1606 to the Gablenz manor. The other part of the village was subordinate to the Zwickau office as an administrative village.

Until 1856 Lauenhain belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Zwickau. In 1856 it was affiliated to the Crimmitschau court office and in 1875 to the Zwickau administration . While Gersdorf already belonged to Lauenhain at that time, Harthau was incorporated into Lauenhain on April 1, 1935.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Lauenhain became part of Werdau district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Werdau from 1990 and in 1994 in the district of Zwickauer Land and in 2008 rose in the district of Zwickau. Since the incorporation of Lauenhain with its two districts to Crimmitschau on January 1, 1999, these three places form the Crimmitschau locality of Lauenhain. In 1998 the generously designed parish hall was opened.
