Lise Davidsen

Lise Davidsen (born February 1987 in Stokke ) is a Norwegian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

education

Davidsen grew up in Stokke and began taking guitar and singing lessons at the age of fifteen. She studied classical singing at the Grieg Academy in Bergen , graduating with a bachelor's degree in 2010 . In the 2012/13 season she made her debut at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen in Janáček's The Cunning Little Fox as Owl and Dachshund, where she also sang Emilia in Verdi's Otello and Rosalinde in the Bat . In 2014 she completed a master's degree with Susanna Eken at the Det Kongelige Danske Music Conservatory and the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen . She attended master classes with Andreas Schmidt and Waltraud Meier, among others .

Operatic career

In 2015 she took on the title role in Paul Hindemith's Sancta Susanna at the Norske Opera and won first prize, the Birgit Nilsson Prize and the Audience Prize at the Operalia singing competition in London, which was initiated by Plácido Domingo . In the same year she won first prize at the International Queen Sonja Music Competition , ahead of Elsa Dreisig, as well as the prize for the best interpretation of Norwegian music and the Ingrid Bjoners scholarship, and at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Amsterdam she won second prize , the Prize of the International Media Jury and the Audience Prize. At the Bavarian State Opera , she sang 2015 Ortlinde in Valkyrie , at the Frankfurt Opera in 2016 as Fricka in Rheingold and the Third Norn in Götterdämmerung and at the Zurich Opera House Agathe in Freischütz .

In 2017 she made her debut at the Glyndebourne Festival and at the Vienna State Opera in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos and also sang the title role at the Irish Wexford Festival in Cherubinis Médée . She was also nominated in the Young Singers category at the 2017 International Opera Awards . At the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in 2018 she sang the role of Ariadne again.

The British magazine Gramophone selected her as Young Artist of the Year in 2018 . In May 2018 she signed an exclusive contract with Decca , where in May 2019 she released her solo debut album with the London Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen and songs and arias by Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner . The album debuted at number one on the UK Classical Charts in June 2019 .

In July 2019 she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival , where she in the Tannhäuser -Neuinszenierung of Tobias scratches under the direction of Valery Gergiev , the Elisabeth sang alongside Stephen Gould in the title role. She previously sang this role in 2019 at the Zurich Opera House and at the Bavarian State Opera. In March 2020 she premiered as Leonore in Beethoven's Fidelio alongside Jonas Kaufmann as Florestan at the Royal Opera House .

Concert singer

As a concert singer, she performed at the BBC Proms in 2018 with Verdi's Messa da Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Andrés Orozco-Estrada and at the Edinburgh International Festival with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under Vasily Petrenko and a program of Strauss songs .
