List of cardinals created by Urban III.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pope Urban III. did not create a new cardinal during his pontificate (1185–1187) . In older literature, however, the following people are mistakenly identified as being from Urban III. created cardinals mentioned:

  • Henri de Sully , O.Cist. , Archbishop of Bourges : He was born by Urban III. appointed papal legate, but not cardinal; the news about his cardinalate is probably due to a mix-up with Henry de Marsiac, who was Cardinal Bishop of Albano from 1179 to 1189 and a legate in Germany and France.
  • Bobo Orsini , later Cardinal Bishop of Porto-Santa Rufina : This cardinal was still from Lucius III. created as a cardinal deacon of S. Angelo; later appointed him Pope Clement III. cardinal priest of S. Anastasia (1188) and cardinal bishop of Porto e S. Rufina (1189). Under Urban III. on the other hand, no doctorate took place.
  • Ugo Geremei , cardinal deacon of S. Teodoro: No cardinal with this name and with these titles is under Urban III., Gregory VIII. Or Clemens III. occupied. He actually lived under Honorius II.
  • Gandolfo, OSB , Abbot of the Monastery of San Sisto : He is said to have been promoted to Cardinal Deacon by SS. Cosma e Damiano. This is not possible, however, because this diakonia was occupied by Graziano from 1178 to 1205.
  • Bosone (Bobo), cardinal deacon of S. Giorgio: This cardinal was first appointed by Clement III. created.
