List of Cardinal Creations Francis

Pope Francis with Orani João Tempesta (left), whom he accepted into the College of Cardinals on February 22, 2014

Pope Francis (in office since March 13, 2013) has created 88 cardinals in six consistories so far. In his consistory, he created more cardinals from emerging countries and the so-called Third World, for example from Haiti, Tonga or the Central African Republic, compared to his predecessors. In the media, these appointments were often seen as a “big surprise” or “reform of the cardinal office”.
