Water tower | Wasserturmstrasse (map) |
1913 | old location Hohnstädt, building dominating the site, of technical and local importance.
The water tower in the Grimma district of Hohnstädt was built in 1913 by the municipality of Hohnstädt based on a design by the Trebsen master builder August Held. The execution was in the hands of the Actiengesellschaft für Beton- und Monierbau Leipzig. The 18-meter-high, plastered reinforced concrete building rises above a square floor plan and has three floors, before small triangular roofs lead to the octagonal container floor. The tent roof is closed off by a windowed lantern. The plain white structure is accentuated by building edges, window frames and cornices set off in red. It has been out of service since 1992 and has only served as a carrier for cell phone antennas. The technical equipment and the 150 m³ reinforced concrete tank have been preserved. The Hohnstädter water tower is characteristic of the town. Its novel reinforced concrete construction in combination with the clear, restrained design language gives it significance in terms of the history of construction and technology. Original windows, plastered brick masonry, tent roof with roofing board shingles, diagonally across from the manor house, near Schmiedegasse. |
