The memorial symbol is a showcase embedded in the floor, the inside of which - like an excavation - is below the ground level of Servitengasse. It contains 462 keys with name tags for the Jewish people who lived in this alley before 1938. The keys were provided by the current residents of Servitengasse. | ||

1985 | The monument, a stone stele with the inscription ΨA - The voice of the intellect is quiet - Sigmund Freud 1856–1939 , was unveiled by Mayor Helmut Zilk on May 6, 1985 (on the centenary of Freud's appointment as a private lecturer) . The Sigmund Freud Society under the leadership of Harald Leupold-Löwenthal had tried to establish a list . The Greek letter Psi and Alpha used Freud as an abbreviation for psychoanalysis . The inscription below the two letters was originally, for reasons that are now unknown, The voice of reason is quiet , which differs from the wording in Freud's 1927 work The Future of an Illusion . In the 1990s, referring to the original quote, ( The voice of the intellect is quiet, but it does not rest until it is heard. In the end, after countless rejection, it finds it.
