The medium-sized complex was located high above the market on the Schlosskogel on two steeply rising boulders lying one behind the other, north of the stump of the square keep, the remains probably date from the 13th / 14th. Century, south small remains of the wall of the stronghold. A curtain wall from the first half of the 16th century was located around the complex.

A four-bay hall church with Romanesque origins and remodeling around 1700. The square choir is slightly lower than the nave and forms a single structure with the sacristy. In 1970 the historic facility was removed. Presumably around 1147 the seat of the Augustinian monastery Säbnich, which was moved to Waldhausen in 1162.

The church building, which dates from the Romanesque period, received several extensions in later years and was rebuilt several times. It stands on a raised ground level and has therefore never been exposed to the risk of flooding. The church served as a hospital church for the hospital founded by Beatrix von Clam in the 12th century.

The former Marienkirche in Struden , also Schifferkirche, in the former Markt Struden in Strudengau was a branch church of the parish church of Sankt Nikola an der Donau.

The small Gothic church is said to have been built in 1502 (probably on the site of a previous church), blocked and executed in 1787. The building, converted for residential purposes, has been privately owned since the final auction in 1792.
