Lothar Groß (born February 10, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Coming from the offspring of north-northwest Berlin , Lothar Groß moved to Tennis Borussia's A-youth in 1957 . There the striker also trained in the first team squad, but was not used in the league for the Berlin champions . Instead, Groß completed his first professional appearance in the final round of the German championship in 1958 in the final 3-8 defeat against Eintracht Braunschweig .

Then he left the tennis Borussia again and joined his home club. With NNW he was promoted to the contract league in Berlin in 1959 , but was immediately relegated from the Groß 'team together with Union 06 . During this time, Wanze was an undisputed regular player and played all 30 games in the relegation season.

After missing relegation, he switched to Hertha BSC . He also became a regular player in 1961 with the old lady trained by Hanne Sobek and was able to celebrate the Berlin championship at the end of the season. In the final round of the German championship in 1961 , which was achieved in this way , Groß only played in the 0-1 defeat at SV Werder Bremen . Since the games did not go much better without Groß 'participation, Hertha was bottom of the group and thus clearly missed the finals. After the title defense missed by just one point behind Tasmania Berlin in the following year , the blue-whites, led by an outstanding Hans-Joachim Altendorff , who scored 41 goals in 26 games , made it better in 1962/63 and again won the title of Berlin soccer champions . That's why they then participated in the championship finals in 1963 , in which Groß played all six group games. Even if things went a little better than two years earlier, the Berliners could not hold their own against 1. FC Köln and 1. FC Nürnberg , but only left 1. FC Kaiserslautern behind.

In 1963, Groß 'club was one of the 16 founding members of the 1st Bundesliga . Under Josef Schneider , Lothar Groß , who has meanwhile been converted into a midfielder, played 23 games and was able to celebrate relegation just before Preußen Münster . In the DFB Cup , he even played all four games, but ultimately could not prevent the 1: 3 semi-final at Eintracht Frankfurt .

In the second Bundesliga season , Hertha danced at four weddings. While the blue-whites were eliminated in the first round both in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Braunschweig (1: 5) and in the Messestädte Cup against Royal Antwerp (2: 1 and 0: 2), they made it in the much less important Inter -Toto Cup much better. After the qualification against Kaiserslautern was missed in 1961/62 due to a drawing of lots, the team trained by Josef Schneider and from March 1965 by Gerhard Schulte moved into the semi-finals, in which they had to admit defeat to SC Leipzig twice. In the league they just managed to stay up. However, as excessive hand money was paid, the German Football Association downgraded Hertha BSC to the Berlin Regionalliga .

This was dominated by the Herthaners in 1965/66 and only one defeat against Spandauer SV stood against 29 victories. In the promotion round achieved , the Berliners clearly missed promotion and finished the group stage behind Fortuna Düsseldorf and FK Pirmasens in third.

Another attempt was made for the 1966/67 season . In addition, changes should be made, so Groß von Schulte was used as a defender . The league was clearly dominated again and finished as champions before Tennis Borussia. The promotion round ended again in a debacle. In a group with Borussia Neunkirchen , Schwarz-Weiß Essen , SV Arminia Hannover and Bayern Hof , Hertha BSC came in last.

Even the third attempt under new coach Helmut Kronsbein won Old Lady the Berlin Championships . Lothar Groß had meanwhile risen to the club's internal regional league record player and had played 87 of 90 games. After missing promotion in the previous two years, things went better in the promotion round and Hertha won her group in front of Rot-Weiss Essen and SV Alsenborn and thus returned to the Bundesliga after a three-year absence.

There, the West Berlin started very badly and could enter the first victory of the season until the sixth game against Werder Bremen. At the end of the season they finished 14th behind 1. FC Köln and were able to celebrate their relegation. In 1970's most successful season to date, Hertha surprisingly came third behind Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Bayern Munich . They also reached the quarter-finals in both the DFB Cup (0: 1 at Alemannia Aachen with a penalty in the 89th minute) and the trade fair cup (1: 0 and 0: 2 against Inter Milan ).

Lothar Groß had meanwhile lost his status as the undisputed regular player and after a total of 81 Bundesliga appearances (3 goals) moved on to Tasmania in 1970, where he was also able to secure the Berlin championship title immediately. With the Neuköllners he immediately gained a regular place and kept it until he left the club for Spandauer SV after three years in which he completed 97 regional league games (11 goals) .

In Spandau , too , Groß became a fixture and was able to celebrate relegation in 1973/74 . This year, Groß scored seven goals in 31 games for Spandau. For the 1974/75 season the league was reformed and the Oberliga Berlin introduced with 18 teams. There the SSV won completely surprisingly ahead of Hertha Zehlendorf . Without figuring out a chance, Spandau took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga North . There you met Westfalia Herne and VfB Oldenburg . Since you could defeat the Oldenburg twice, the Spandauer rose surprisingly for themselves. The squad had already been put together completely for the new league season and now had to take part in the second division in the 1975/76 season as the third second division in Berlin alongside Tebe and Wacker 04 . There they lost right at the beginning against fellow promoted Union Solingen in front of a home crowd with 1: 4 and graced the end of the table from the first day of the game, from which they could not break away for the entire season. Before the 15th match day, until then the Spandau SV lost all the games, the former was Handball -Nationalspieler Helmut Kosmehl committed. Even if they promptly scored against Wattenscheid 09 , he did not prove to be a reinforcement. The first home win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen was only won 1-0 on matchday 23 . Four weeks later, the second and final victory against VfL Osnabrück followed (also 1-0). At the end of the season, the SSV rose again with 32 defeats and 115 goals conceded.

After this adventure, in which he had played 21 games (1 goal), the now 36-year-old Lothar Groß ended his football career.
