Ludwig Adamovich junior
Ludwig Karl Adamovich (born August 24, 1932 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian lawyer . From 1984 to 2002 he was President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Austria . He is the son of Ludwig Adamovich senior .
Professional background
Adamovich attended the Akademisches Gymnasium in Vienna , then studied law at the University of Vienna, where he received his doctorate in law ( Dr.iur. ) In 1954 . In 1955 he entered the administrative service of the Province of Lower Austria, from 1956 he worked in the constitutional service of the Federal Chancellery. After completing his habilitation in Austrian constitutional law and constitutional policy at the University of Vienna , Adamovich became o. Univ.Prof. for public law at the University of Graz . In 1976 he returned as head of the constitutional service of the Federal Chancellery, where he was appointed Section Head in the Federal Chancellery in 1977. The University of Graz appointed him honorary professor .
From 1984 to 2002 Adamovich was President of the Austrian Constitutional Court .
Adamovich gained particular prominence through the public dispute with the Carinthian governor Jörg Haider , who refused to accept the 2001 decision of the Constitutional Court on the place-name sign dispute (on the question of the rights of the Slovenian minority in Carinthia to have Slovene village names on official place-name signs). Haider said in a beer cell speech: "If someone is already called Adamovich, you first have to ask yourself whether he has a valid residence permit."
Ludwig Adamovich has been advising Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen on constitutional matters since he took office on January 26, 2017.
Part-time activities
From September 2004, Ludwig Adamovich was an honorary advisor on constitutional issues to the then Federal President Heinz Fischer . He held this office until the end of Heinz Fischer's term of office in July 2016. For the Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen , who has been in office since January 2017 , he also works as a voluntary advisor on constitutional issues.
In 2008 he was appointed by the Ministry of the Interior as head of an evaluation commission, which was commissioned to deal with the kidnapping case of Natascha Kampusch , in which the girl was imprisoned in a dungeon of her kidnapper for several years - possibly as a result of investigations by the public prosecutor or the police .
At the end of 2009 Adamovich gave several critical interviews in which he speculatively dealt with, among other things, the difficult family situation of Kampusch. Thereupon he was sued by relatives of the kidnapping victim for defamation and convicted in the first instance. The judge Birgit Schneider, who sentenced Adamovich, is the daughter of the former head of the Vienna public prosecutor Otto Schneider. In addition to senior public prosecutor Werner Pleischl, he had “leading joint responsibility in the investigation into the Kampusch case”, which Adamovich's commission investigated. The former President of the Supreme Court , Johann Rzeszut , identified bias in this connection. In his opinion, the judge would have been “obliged” to submit a declaration of bias in the interests of objectivity. On December 22, 2010, the judgment against Adamovich was legally overturned by the Vienna Higher Regional Court in the second and last instance. According to the Court of Appeal, his statements did not exceed the limits of the right to freedom of expression.
In 2013 Adamovich took over the management of the Independent Party Transparency Senate , which was created together with the Party Transparency Act and is located at the Federal Chancellery.
