Luka Vidmar (born May 17, 1986 in Ljubljana , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with SønderjyskE Ishockey in the Danish Metal Ligaen .
Career
Luka Vidmar started his career at HDD Olimpija Ljubljana . At the age of 16 he made his debut for Olimpija in the Slovenian league , which he won with the club from his hometown in 2003 and 2004. In 2005 he moved to the United States for nine years. First he played for two years for Chicago Steel from the United States Hockey League . During his studies at the University of Alaska Anchorage he played from 2007 to 2011 for their ice hockey team, the Anchorage Sewolfes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , which belongs to Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In 2009, 2010 and 2011 he was elected to the Conference's All-Academic Team. From 2011 to 2014 he played in the ECHL with the Las Vegas Wranglers , the Colorado Eagles and the South Carolina Stingrays . During his time with the Stingrays, he also came to six missions for the Rochester Americans in the higher-class American Hockey League . In 2014 Vidmar returned to Europe and initially played for BK Mladá Boleslav in the Czech extra league . In 2015/16 he was on the ice at Stjernen Hockey in the Norwegian GET-ligaen and in 2016/17 at the Frederikshavn White Hawks from the Danish Metal Ligaen . He then moved to Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian Ice Hockey League , for which he scored 18 points by the end of the 2017/18 season.
From November Vidmar played briefly at HC Bozen in the EBEL before he switched to SønderjyskE Ishockey in January 2020 .
International
Luka Vidmar took part in the junior division of Slovenia in the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2003 and 2004 and in the U20 World Championships in Division I in 2005 and 2006 .
He played with the Slovenian men's national team at the World Championships in Division I in 2010 , 2016 and 2018 and in the top division in 2015 and 2017 . He also represented his colors in qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics and in the Pyeongchang Winter Games itself.
