history

Luppa consists of two street villages with plan acquired meadows on an area of 934 and 665 ha. Judging by the type of settlement, it is a German colonization settlement in an area populated by Sorbs ( Wends ), which derives its root name from the water that divides the two places Luppa , has borrowed. In 1120 Dietrich bought 35 hooves in Luppa from Ortolf I , Burgmann zu Döben , in order to give them to the Heilig Kreuz monastery in Meißen , which in 1229 acquired another five hooves from Ortolf's descendants.

The Ortolfs were obviously the founders of Luppa, who were Reichsministeriale or even noble free . Probably Ortolf I came to Luppa after the destruction of his royal castle in Döben in 1117 by Wiprecht von Groitzsch and dared a fresh start as an experienced settler and administrator on the property that was left to him or was left to him. The ministerials of Luppa, such as the knight Albert von Luppa, buried in Meißner Dom in 1317 and appearing in margravial documents between 1213 and 1287, can therefore only have been feudal men of the Ortolfs . Obviously, as a result of the influx of German settlers, in addition to the establishment of a new German village, Wendish settlements were merged.

At this point in time , the social structure of the Wendish settlements had already gone through a feudalisation process that was largely due to the influence of the Germans. The main reason for the development of Wendisch-Luppa was the fact that the Via Regia passed by. During the Hussite devastation and the Thirty Years' War , there was enormous war damage to the houses and victims to the population. The parishes were politically separated, but united by the parish, the school, the cemetery, the fire brigade and the clubs.

During the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , Luppa was the assembly camp for all warring parties - first the French, then the Russians, then the Austrians and finally the Prussians. A marble plaque on the church commemorates the Saxons who fell on the French side.

On the square east of the Schwarzes Ross inn is the war memorial for the 36 fallen soldiers of the First World War . In 1939, the Luppa district of Radegast was re-municipalityed to Börln. Before 1945 there were three petrol stations in Wendisch-Luppa. 70 Luppaers died in World War II .

On May 4, 1945, the Soviets came to loot and rape. 150 violated women had to report to the municipal office because of contagious sexually transmitted diseases . A farmer who stood protectively in front of his daughters was shot. Then under the slogan Junkerland was in peasant hands - now we are going to root out the weeds! the Luppa landowner Erich Jurich expropriated without compensation and divided his land to so-called new farmers . LPG Eintracht Luppa was founded on December 19, 1952 .

From 1953 by the beginning for the new farmers Socialist Unity Party of Germany powered forced collectivisation . But the farmers resisted - and so, with the help of the workers from Leipzig's Kirow factory who had been brought in by bus and trained accordingly, the local farmers were silenced in propaganda events , their spokesmen were arrested and taken to the Waldheim prison . Until 1958, foods such as butter, sugar, fat and meat were only sold on food stamps . In the fall of 1960, a new fire station for the volunteer fire brigade was built on the former gymnasium and inaugurated in May 1963. On March 25, 1960 there were no more free farmers in Luppa. After that, large stalls were built for several hundred cattle and thousands of pigs.

On January 1, 1974, Calbitz and Malkwitz were incorporated into Luppa.

The peaceful revolution in the GDR brought radical changes for Luppa. The stables of the former LPG were empty and were partially demolished. New homes emerged. Construction and craft companies as well as haulage companies settled here.

The last mayor Peter Lehmann was against the prescribed by the state of Saxony dependence of the community Luppa and suspected behind the entering into force on 1 January 1999 local government reform a politically disreputable intrigue of the CDU state government of Saxony, as for all the mayors were politically ineffective, that does not Were members of the ruling party. His candidacy for the PDS 2001 as mayor of the new municipality Wermsdorf was unsuccessful. His predecessor, the ex-mayor Frank Kuhnitzsch, had publicly accused him of complete inaction on June 2, 1998 in the decisive meeting for incorporation in Wermsdorf in the presence of the Wermsdorf CDU mayor Bernd-Dieter Lehmann, and another councilor even took the view there, that Luppa's independence is the greater evil. On January 1, 1999, Luppa was finally incorporated into Wermsdorf and lost its political independence.

German Luppa

The German foundation can be recognized by the orientation of the Dreiseithöfe to the street. Different place names in history were:

  • 1213: Albertus de Luppe
  • 1215: Albertus de Luppa
  • 1445: German Loppe
  • 1460: Dewtsche Lope
  • 1552: Deutzschen Luppa
  • 1939: Luppa

Until 1554 Luppa was liable to the Heilig Kreuz monastery (Meißen) . On September 15, 1554 Heinrich von Schleinitz on Börln was enfeoffed by Elector August with the village of German Luppa with the parish and church loan, as well as with a number of interest from Windischen Luppa . In 1939, the German-Luppa district of Radegast was re-pared to Börln. 1974 Calbitz and Malkwitz were incorporated into Luppa. In 1999 Luppa was incorporated into the municipality of Wermsdorf.

Wendisch-Luppa

Different place names in history were:

  • 1229: Windisclup
  • 1445: Windische Loppe
  • 1590: Wendish Luppa
  • 1940: Altluppa - the deletion of Wendisch's name had purely ideological reasons

The mansion of the founder Ortolf I. is to be found in Wendisch-Luppa, since the entire property, except for the small monastic parts mentioned above, remained in secular manorial rule until the 16th century and with at least 35 full farmer positions represented a not inconsiderable property. In 1900 Wendisch-Luppa had 292 inhabitants in 59 houses. In 1935, Wendisch-Luppa was incorporated into Deutsch-Luppa.

The Luppa

The water body name Luppa has only been in use since 1860. Until then, the small brook was called the Bruch brook . The Luppa has its sources at the Luppaer Kirchenwald and at the Irmrichwiesen. The Luppa flows between Wendisch - Luppa and Deutsch - Luppa as a border river through to Malkwitz , past Calbitz to Neuböhla, then to Wellerswalde and Leisnitz through the Lampertswalder Park into the Dahle .

The pastors' dispute with Börln 1684–1815

In 1684 the Luppa pastor Scheukers Ochsen ran across a meadow of the lordship of Börln , whose church patron Friedrich von Döring withheld it and demanded six talers from the pastor for fodder and demurrage. There was a legal dispute and a court settlement between 1684 and 1687. In 1710, after repeated refusals by von Döring, the pastor asked the elector for investigation and help, since the patron was apparently completely indifferent to the condition of the church. In 1712 a storm tore enormous damage and the patron again refused the pastor all help and support, so that the pastor had to turn to the elector for help.

When the patron of Döring wanted to borrow 150 thalers from the church, he was refused by the church council. The baron was so angry that he brought a trumped-up charge against the pastors of Börln and Luppa to the consistory. However, the charges were dismissed out of total baselessness. The patron died in 1726 and passed on his hatred of the pastors of Luppa and Börln to his descendants Ernst August and Christian Friedrich von Döring. It was not until November 22, 1815, 131 years later, that the eternal dispute between the Luppa pastor M. Wendler and the manor Baron von Pfister on Börln was ended by a settlement.

Name interpretation

The document language of the first mentioned document from 1213 is Middle High German and not Slavic . Albertus de Luppe was mentioned . In Middle High German Luppe means ointment or medicine. The often mentioned interpretation of the modern language Luppa over the Wendish clup as a log is just as ideologically embellished as the deletion of Wendisch - Luppa and renaming to Alt - Luppa by the National Socialists in 1940 . After the Second World War was lost, historians in the Soviet occupation zone and later GDR had to make all historical references in the context of Slavic. It is not difficult to determine that a log with the water name Luppa does not have any semantics . But since drug extracts are diluted with water, a relationship between Luppe as a place by the Luppa brook, where medicine and ointment was made, is more conceivable. From 1972 to 1990, from May to September, the ancient medicinal herb , real chamomile, was harvested at the foot of the Collmberg by the former VEB Heilkräuter Oschatz and drug extracts were made from it.

Evangelical Lutheran Church Luppa

The Luppa church from the 13th century with Romanesque apse on May 14, 2011

In 1220 the quarry stone building, which is now plastered, was mentioned as ecclesia . The Luppa church was destroyed during the Hussite devastation and then restored. On May 10, 1434, an altar was consecrated in honor of the Virgin Mary , Saint Laurence and Saint Agnes . Whether the altar visible today is still the old one from 1434 can no longer be determined, but it cannot be ruled out either; it is dated to the first half of the 15th century. Modifications took place in 1628 and from 1730 to 1734. The sculptor Christian Friedrich Conrad from Calbitz made the pulpit above the altar in 1730 and the painting was done by Achatius Carl Porsch from Wurzen. In 1835 the church filled with light and changed the galleries and pews . 1872 was rebuilt and sacristy installation by Hugo Altendorff from Leipzig . From 2006 to 2008 the Romanesque church with the striking 54 m high tower was extensively renovated. The community raised the necessary funds itself. Natural stone slabs were laid in the floor of the sanctuary, painting work was carried out and new seating was installed. Restorers reworked the ceiling painting and the Romanesque apse was restored to the interior. On May 18, 2008, the renovated church was inaugurated again by superintendent Albrecht Schmidt.

The church - art - culture community development project was initiated by the church council in cooperation with the Education and Culture Association of Saxony e. V. initiated in order to carry religious impulses from the church into the community.

traffic

With the introduction of the postal system in Saxony , the postal route led via the former Via Regia through Wendisch-Luppa. In 1726, however, the post was rerouted via the newly built Poststrasse via Stauchitz to Wermsdorf . In 1816 this was moved back to the so-called Poststrasse and led through the town again. In 1860 the post office came to Dahlen , as the postal service Leipzig - Dresden by carriage was discontinued. Only the Torgau –Wermsdorf postal service ran until 1884. On June 1, 1859, the master road builder Wilcke finished measuring the postal rate number 75 at the Luppa-Dahlen station to Wermsdorf. The starting point for the survey was the north-western corner of the Luppa-Dahlen station building. After the survey was completed, a sandstone station stone was set up at the junction of the road section from the Chaussee to the Luppa-Dahlen train station, 0.01 mile from the starting point of the survey. In 1866 the station on the Dresden-Leipzig railway was called Luppa-Dahlen.

Volunteer fire brigade with occupied stork's nest on May 14, 2011

Luppa volunteer fire department

On May 28, 1911 the Luppa volunteer fire brigade was accepted into the district fire brigade association Grimma - Oschatz . From June 30, 1940, the comrades were used as auxiliary police. On February 10, 1946, the comrades received ID cards in German-Russian script. In 1963 the fire brigade left the Dahlen alarm area and formed a new one with the Calbitz , Malkwitz , Collm and Luppa fire brigades . In 1969 the fire brigade was incorporated into the disaster control. Major fires that the Luppa fire brigade played a key role in fighting:

  • In 1947 a week-long forest fire in the Musche
  • 1973 the major fire in Dahlen Castle

In the immediate vicinity there is an artificial stork's nest, which has been accepted regularly since 1992. The first pairs of storks were registered in Luppa in 1880. Due to the numerous stork nests in the Wermsdorf area, not only did the villages compete for the fluctuating breeding pairs, but also the stork pairs themselves for the feeding areas, so there were dramatic attacks by foreign storks in nearby Liptitz in 2008, which ended with the death of the nesting boy and from then on the nest remained unoccupied.

Luppa gravel works

Mitteldeutsche Baustoffe GmbH has been one of the owners since 2006. The small gravel pit belongs to the municipality of Wermsdorf. In the summers, dangerous Black Baths kept coming into the private gravel pits. In order to contain the resulting danger, the municipality of Wermsdorf issued its own police ordinance for the small gravel pit in 2000 .

The Luppa post mill is the landmark of the place. It was built between 1838 and 1841. From 1887 to 1990 the mill was renovated with the help of monument preservation funds and after work for the citizens of Luppa.

Natural pool

The natural pool on the B6 between Wurzen and Oschatz is the largest of the four gravel pit bodies of water in Luppa and was used as the largest natural pool in the region as early as the 1980s. 22 hectares of water provide space for 80,000 bathers annually on the 1.5 km long sandy beach. Part of the beach is used as a nudist beach. After a catfish attacked a swimmer in 2000, a swimmer was again the victim of a fish attack in 2010. This time a perch was suspected to be the culprit. After this new incident, the Leipzig Anglers' Association only releases tench and carp in the natural pool. In March 2008, the company Göring Bäderbetriebe GmbH received the lease agreement. The owner and managing director is Gerhard Göring from Baden-Württemberg . The reason for the bid against two competitors was the operator's commitment to invest in a campsite. The application submitted by the investor in July 2007 for a sufficiently long extension of the lease contract, the contract was limited to December 31, 2010 and thus guarantees against the financiers, was rejected by the Wermsdorf councilors. In November 2010, the tenant Göring filed for bankruptcy.

Edelmannsteich

The pond belonging to the lordship of Börln was bought by the Wendisch - Luppa community in 1836 and was named Edelmannsteich from then on. Once a year, on the Saturday before the parish fair, the catch was fished and the catch distributed to so-called forks . After 1945 the pond was used as a bathing pond and as a horse pond. Due to the gradual silting up of the pond, floods and long drought in 2002 and 2003, the former mayor of the municipality of Wermsdorf, Bernd-Dieter Lehmann, ordered 108 poplars and 36 smaller trees to be felled at the Edelmannsteich at the end of 2003. Barbara Scheller, for Bündnis 90 - Die Grünen in the municipal council of Wermsdorf , then asked the environmental office in Torgau to examine the matter. The authority then initiated a hearing process. The environmental association Grüne Welle in Oschatz and the district office then found six months later that the trees had been felled against the nature conservation law. The Office for Rural Development in Wurzen then declared that the already allocated funding for the rehabilitation of the wetland biotope would be reclaimed by the municipality of Wermsdorf. Bernd-Dieter Lehmann saw himself as a victim of a politically led intrigue and drew public parallels to Machern's convicted ex-mayor Ralf Ziermaier and Dresden's ex-mayor Ingolf Roßberg. He found it irritating that the same people were always behind several proceedings against him. Ultimately, Lehmann was banned from entering his own community and removed from service. In criminal proceedings at the Oschatz district court on April 5, 2005, Lehmann was sentenced to pay a fine of € 1,500. Despite the broad sympathy of the citizens of Wermsdorf, he was never able to legally enforce his often announced political return, even after years of litigation.

Trivia

The carnage to Luppa

It was in the late seventies of the last century. After a successful hunt, two hunters from Wermsdorf killed two large wild boars . Since one of the pigs was very large, the fire brigade's comrades were asked for help with transportation. In their high spirits, the comrades drove with sirens and flashing lights over today's B6 to get the wild boar from the forest to Luppa and then unload it in front of the restaurant. In gratitude for this support, the hunters donated the innards to their comrades. So a comrade who happened to be a trained butcher broke open the animal at the entrance and the innkeeper prepared the comrade's heart and liver late in the evening. The next morning the local learned Section Agents of the police that the fire had gone with special signal over the B6 and wanted to know the cause for this. So he drove through Luppa and found large pools of blood on the entrance steps to the restaurant. Residents told him that the fire brigade comrades were in the restaurant and presumably had fought. Excited, he immediately alerted all authorities, such as the SED district leadership responsible at the time, the police district office and the mayor, who immediately started their investigations, which had hardly started but had already ended.

The giant catfish from Luppa

While crawling his back in the Luppa natural pool in the summer of 2000, 16-year-old Sophie Eulenfeld was severely bitten in the thigh by a large fish. Then she saw something big and black plunge into deep water. Based on the bite marks, experts concluded that a giant catfish attacked . On September 11, 2005, the fisherman Kay Schumann pulled a 1.76 m tall, 30-year-old catfish from the natural pool in a forty-minute fight. The Anglerverband Mittlere Mulde Leipzig suspects much larger specimens in the Luppa natural pool. The lifeguards employed in the pool have named the giant fish Rudi . Parallels have been drawn with the Loch Ness Monster .

The wind pants from Luppa

At the end of March 1867, near Luppa, a windpipe with three currents was created. The storm in Luppa was so strong that a long row of houses was discovered in Wendisch-Luppa and in nearby Dahlen the silver poplar was felled, which Count Heinrich von Bünau planted in 1763 as a souvenir for the signing of the Hubertusburg Peace by Friedrich II was.
