Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015 (abbreviation: MESC 2015 ) was the Maltese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna ( Austria ). The singer Amber won with the song Warrior .
format
concept
On July 11, 2015, the Maltese public broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) confirmed Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna and announced that the Malta Eurovision Song Contest would remain the preliminary decision for the ESC. A total of 134 entries were sent in for the preliminary round, 20 of which were selected by an expert jury to take part in the semi-finals, which will take place on November 21, 2014 in Marsa Shipbuilding . Here, the audience and a jury, each with 50% of the votes, selected the 14 finalists who will compete on November 22nd to succeed the group Firelight , which represented Malta at the ESC in 2014.
The hall in which the preliminary round took place is a former shipyard where the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 took place a week earlier . The MESC normally takes place in February, but in order to be able to use the elaborate JESC stage again, the event has been brought forward to November.
On October 13, 2014, the WE Media studios produced the music videos for the respective songs, which were released on October 20.
In contrast to the previous year, the winning song can be changed by the artist after the finale, but it must be performed by the same artist as well as written by the same authors.
As the opening act for the finale on November 22nd, Conchita Wurst sang Rise Like a Phoenix and Heroes . The opening act for the semifinals were both the 20 semifinalists, who sang the song Together , and Federica Falzon , who competed for the island in the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Attendees
On September 26, 2014, the 20 semi-finalists of 134 submissions were announced in the TV program Xarabank on TVM. Among them are former representatives of Malta, such as Gianluca Bezzina (as a member of the band L-Aħwa), who competed for the island in 2013 in Malmö , Sweden, and participants in the preliminary round of previous years.
