Magnus Ivanovich von Brevern
Magnus Gabriel Bernhard Iwanowitsch von Brevern ( Russian Магнус Иванович Бреверн ; born December 14, 1825 in Alu , Harjumaa , Estonia ; † August 21, 1878 in Odessa , Russian Empire ) was a Russian major general in the Imperial Russian Army . He came from the German-Baltic noble family of the "von Brevern" .
Military career
His soldierly education began in 1846 at the Military Academy of Artillery and later Military Academy of Artillery in St. Petersburg. As an ensign he switched to a mounted artillery brigade and in 1849 began his service in the field artillery. In 1850 he moved to the 2nd battery of the Guards Artillery and in 1856 became its commander . In 1860 he was promoted to major and in 1861 he was promoted to the rank of captain in command of a division of the Terek Cossacks . On April 17, 1863 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1865 took part in maneuvers of the Prussian troops as an observer of the Imperial Russian army . His promotion to colonel took place on April 4, 1865 and he took command of a guard battery . On August 30, 1873, with the rank of major general, he was appointed commander of a Guard Cavalry Brigade . In 1875 it was used in the imperial entourage "His Majesty's Imperial Suite" of Tsar Alexander II. In 1877 he became a member of the committee for equipment and troop training. During the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877-1878 he commanded an artillery brigade and on August 10, 1877 was appointed chief of staff of the guards artillery. After the war, he led the military evacuation of the Russian Guard Corps to Bulgaria and died suddenly on August 21, 1878 in Odessa.

family
The grandparents of Magnus I von Brevern were Heinrich Johann von Brevern (1749-1803) and Anna Elisabeth Staël von Holstein . His parents were their son Heinrich Johann (Iwan) von Brevern auf Kostifer (1775-1850), who was married to Marie De la Gardie (1786-1876) in his second marriage .
His brothers were Pontus Alexander Ludwig Count Brevern-de la Gardie (1814-1890), Swedish count and general in the Imperial Russian Army, and Georg Karl von Brevern (1807-1892), lawyer , real privy councilor and member of the Russian State Council . His father's brother, Christoph Engelbrecht von Brevern (1782–1863), was a Livonian civil governor .
Magnus I. Brevern married (August 21, 1858, Odessa) Adelaide Wilhelmine Gertrude von Straelborn (1832–1898). The marriage remained without offspring.
