Malijai is a municipality with 1975 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur in southern France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Digne-les-Bains and the Canton of Digne-les-Bains-2 .

history

An early mention of the village comes from the year 1272 under the name "Malijacio". Later the settlement was given the Latin name "Male jactus".

1876-1989 the railway line Saint-Auban - Digne-les-Bains was in operation, which also passed Malijai.
