Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban is a French municipality with 5139 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Digne-les-Bains and the Canton of Volonne .
geography
Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban is on the right-hand side of the Durance at the confluence with the Bléone . The community consists of the districts of Château-Arnoux and Saint-Auban .
history
The place was founded around 1150. Between 1510 and 1530 the castle (French Château ) Arnoux was built. The community received its current double name on December 13, 1991.

Dating back to the 16th century Renaissance -Schloss with a remarkable spiral staircase , Castle Park and associated farm and the Saint-Jean - Chapel of 1667/68.

The place houses a weather station , an airfield and an air sports center .
traffic
The place has a train station on the Ligne du Val de Durance . TER trains on the Marseille - Pertuis - Briançon route run on the 315 km long railway line . The continuous passenger train service to Grenoble was discontinued in the course of regionalization. The line to nearby Digne-les-Bains , where there was a connection to the railways to Nice , was abandoned in 1989.
