Mari Români ( The Greatest Romanians ) is the Romanian offshoot that ran on Televiziunea Română , of 100 Greatest Britons , produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation in 2002 . In 2006 the public had the opportunity to vote for the 100 greatest Romanians of all time. Then each of the top ten received their own program, with viewers given the opportunity to vote after each program. After a final discussion and vote, Ștefan cel Mare was announced on October 21st as the greatest Romanian of all time.

The newspaper Evenimentul Zilei started a poll about the worst Romanians (Amari Români - "bitter Romanians", a play on words with mari "greatest") and the results were:
