Martha Marbo

Martha Marbo (born April 1, 1922 in Vienna as Martha Schlüsselgruber ; † November 9, 2004 in Frankfurt am Main ) was an Austrian actress .

Life

Marbo completed an acting training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna; Due to the historical events of the time, she came to Salzburg towards the end of the Second World War . She made her debut as an actress in August 1945 at the Salzburg Festival . She played, alongside Albin Skoda , Claudio's mistress in Hugo von Hofmannsthal's short drama Der Tor und der Tod . In October 1945 she took part in the first broadcast of the radio program Du holde Kunst in Salzburg, together with Helmut Janatsch , which Ernst Schönwiese , the then head of the literature department of the occupying station Rot-Weiß-Rot in Salzburg, had launched. Marbo and Janatsch read poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller ; the live produced broadcast was accompanied by music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven .

This was followed by theater engagements at the Burgtheater Vienna , in Heidelberg , Wiesbaden , Kiel , Hamburg , Cologne and Frankfurt am Main . In Frankfurt, where Marbo later took up residence, she appeared at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt , at the Fritz-Remond-Theater , where she was part of the ensemble for over three decades, and at the comedy . She also appeared at the Heppenheim Festival.

In the 1951/1952 season she appeared at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel as Rosaura in the German premiere of Nestroy -Posse Theaterg'schichten (premiere: December 1951). In the season 1952/1953 she appeared in Frankfurt in the Theater am Roßmarkt in the title role of Miss Julie ; her partner as cook Kristin was Liesel Christ . In December 1956 she played the Dynamene in the one-act play Ein Phönix zuviel by Christopher Fry at the Vienna Academy Theater ; her partners were Dagny Servaes and Michael Janisch . In 1965 she worked together with Heinz Pielbusch at the Kleiner Theater im Zoo in the performances of the two plays The Impromptu Play of Versailles and DGT Herr von Pourceaugnac . In 1965 she played in the Kleiner Theater im Zoo together with Fritz Rémond, Anna Teluren and Lotte Barthel in the salon comedy His Last Testament by Sacha Guitry ; the performance was also recorded for television. In September 1990 she played at the Fritz-Rémond-Theater in the tabloid comedy Na und? by Françoise Dorin at the side of Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff , Cornelia Köndgen and Heini Göbel . Marbo was artistically active into old age. In November 2000 she took part in the theater project Crossword Puzzle Pit Stop in Frankfurt ; an artistic project in which two professional actresses played theater together with amateur actresses from a retirement home. Marbo last appeared in 2003/2004 under the direction of Jo van Nelsen at the Burgfestspiele Bad Vilbel in the musical Tonight Lola Blau by Georg Kreisler .

Marbo also frequently worked as a speaker for radio plays . In 1952 she took on the role of Princess Lena in Georg Büchner's comedy Leonce and Lena in a production by Hessischer Rundfunk ; her partners were Gerd Martienzen , Erich Ponto , Martin Held and Edith Heerdegen . In 1959 she was involved in the role of a sister in a radio play version of Stefan Zweig's story Die Schachnovelle at Hessischer Rundfunk . In 1962 she spoke for Hessischer Rundfunk as Miss Rihoschek in the radio play production of Arthur Schnitzler's novella Spiel im Morgengrauen . In 2000 she recorded the comedy The President of Werner Schwab with Maria Singer and Tilla Hohenfels .

Marbo was also seen in a few movies and in German and Austrian television productions. She worked several times in television productions of plays. However, her theatrical work always remained the focus of her artistic work.

In 1948 she starred in the Austrian comedy Die Rejüngungskur , a film that was made in Thiersee , then the center of the Austrian post-war film industry. She was directed by Wolfgang Liebeneiner in 1952 in his film April 1, 2000 , alongside Hilde Krahl . In 1967 she took on the role of Madame Schleyer in the posse with singing Der Zerrissene in a television production of the Austrian radio with Josef Meinrad . In 1981 she had a small role in a television production of Heinrich von Kleist's play Das Käthchen von Heilbronn , directed by Peter Beauvais .

In the 1990s she also starred in a few television series. In 1993, in the ARD television series Die Lindenstrasse , she played the role of Mrs. Dabelstein , the mother of Wolf-Dieter Dabelstein , the fatally injured boss of the series character Hans Beimer . She has also appeared in the crime series Inspector Rex , A Case for Two and Tatort .

In 1984 she appeared as an artist in the show One will win in Stuttgart . In the obligatory satirical film, she was the queen.

Marbo had been married to the journalist and former head of the radio station Rot-Weiß-Rot, Hans Cohrssen (1905-1997) since 1953 . The marriage had two children, a son and a daughter.
