Massimo "Miki" Biasion (born January 7, 1958 in Bassano del Grappa ( VI )) is a former Italian rally driver . With co-driver Tiziano Siviero he won Lancia Delta in 1988 and 1989 , the World Rally Championship .
Career
Miki Biasion won the European Rally Championship (ERC) in 1983 with a Lancia Rally 037 . Biasion played a key role for the Lancia factory rally team when Henri Toivonen was killed in an accident in 1986 . He took over the leadership position in the team and became world champion in 1988 and 1989 . Until then, Biasion was only the second driver after Juha Kankkunen to successfully defend his title and only the third driver with two World Championship titles after Kankkunen and Walter Röhrl . After that, Biasion could no longer build on its previous achievements. A move to Ford did not bring the desired success, especially with the Ford Sierra Cosworth. In 1993, Biasion accused Ford of not investing enough development work in the Ford Escort . After three seasons together, Ford and Biasion ended the collaboration and he resigned after the 1994 Rally Great Britain .
In 2007 Biasion took part in the Dakar Rally with a Fiat Panda factory car and in 2012 with an Iveco Trakker Evolution II . Biasion won the World Truck Championship in 1998 and 1999 with Iveco .
