Mathieu Darche (born November 26, 1976 in Saint-Laurent , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 268 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets , Nashville Predators , San Jose Sharks , Tampa Bay during his active career between 1996 and 2012 Lightning and Canadiens de Montréal played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position .
Career
Darche first played from 1996 to 2000 at the Canadian McGill University , where he increased his offensive productivity from year to year. In his last year he scored 62 points in 26 games.
After he was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft , took him at the beginning of the 2000/01 season, the Columbus Blue Jackets , which went into their first NHL season, under contract. There he played the following three seasons mostly in the farm team , the Syracuse Crunch . During this time he played only 24 NHL games, with two points. At the beginning of the 2003/04 season , Darche moved to the Nashville Predators , for which he was allowed to appear in just one NHL game. Most of the time he spent with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL , with whom he could win the Calder Cup at the end of the playoffs . The Canadian spent the lockout season with the Hershey Bears before moving to the Füchsen Duisburg in the German Ice Hockey League for the 2005/06 season.
After only one year in Germany, Darche signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks in July 2006 , who used him in their new farm team, the Worcester Sharks . As the team went into its first AHL season, Darche set some franchise records. He scored the first goal in franchise history, booked the first hat trick and set a record with five scorer points in one game. On February 16, 2007 he made his NHL debut for San Jose in the away game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He left the organization of the Sharks after the 2006/07 season and moved as a free agent to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a year , where he earned a regular place in the squad and played 73 games this season. Nevertheless, the Lightning, which were in a state of upheaval due to a change of ownership in the summer of 2008, did not extend his expiring contract. As a result, Darche signed a one-year contract with league competitor Buffalo Sabers , where he could not prevail in the NHL squad, but was sent to the AHL to the Portland Pirates . After just one season in Portland, the Canadiens de Montréal took him under contract. The 2009/10 season he spent both in the NHL squad of the Canadiens and in the farm team with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League. In the following season, Darche earned a regular place in Montréal.
After the end of the 2011/12 season, Darche ended his active career at the age of 36.
