Matthew Myers (born November 6, 1984 in Cardiff , Wales ) is a British ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2016 .

Career

Matthew Myers began his career as a hockey player in the junior division of the Cardiff Devils , for which he made his debut in the 2001/02 season in the British National League . After losing the playoff final against Coventry Blaze with his team in 2003 , he moved with the team from his hometown to the newly founded Elite Ice Hockey League . After playing with the Devils for a year in what is now the strongest British league, he moved to league rivals Nottingham Panthers . With the team from the East Midlands he won the EIHL playoffs in 2007 and the Challenge Cup a year later. After spending the 2009/10 season in the ECHL , where he was on the ice for the Bakersfield Condors and the Johnstown Chiefs , he returned to Nottingham and was able to play the EIHL and 2013 playoffs with the Panthers in 2011, 2012 and 2013, respectively Win the Challenge Cup. In 2013 he and his team also achieved the British championship title by winning the EIHL main round . He then moved back to his home club, the Cardiff Devils, with which he was able to win the Challenge Cup again in 2015. In 2015/16 he played again in Nottingham and won both the playoffs and the Challenge Cup of the EIHL with the club in 2016. He then returned to Cardiff and won with the Devils both the EIHL main round, which he was again British champion , as well as the Challenge Cup. In 2018 he was able to win the British championship with the Devils and this time also the playoffs. For Nottingham and Cardiff, he has so far completed over 700 games in the EIHL.

International

For Great Britain , Myers took part in the junior division of the U18 World Cup in 2002 and the U20 World Cup in 2003 and 2004 in Division II, where he and his team were promoted to Division I in 2002 and 2004.

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 , as the British for the first time since Descent in 1994 succeeded in jumping to the highest level of the world championships. Myers also took part for Great Britain in the Olympic qualifications for the Games in Vancouver 2010 , Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 .
