Messier 48 (also known as NGC 2548 ) is a +5.8 mag brighter open star cluster that is visible to the naked eye under good atmospheric conditions . The angular extent of the object to be found in the constellation Water Snake is 54 '. The age of the star cluster is estimated to be 300 million years.
